ET police eye developments in tasers' use

They are used by law enforcement to disable suspects resisting arrest, but new information that is emerging suggests the Taser stun guns used by many police forces across the nation may lead to death or permanent injury.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police recently acknowledged public concerns over the Tasers and has called for additional studies and specific training protocols to be developed for the weapon's use. <snip>

Taser International originally stated that the devices were safe and posed no threat of death or serious injury.

However, the company recently filed a report with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission stating that the product could be a factor in serious injury and death cases where the instrument was used. <snip>
