CBS Meyers: Give Sleaze A Chance (AARP Attacks)
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/02/25/opinion/meyer/printable676502.shtml

Earnest and well-intentioned people across our earnest and well-intentioned country are all lathered because some of the folks who brought us the Swift Boat Veterans ads against John Kerry have now started a group called USA Next that is running ads against the AARP. They don't want the AARP to fight against President Bush's Social Security proposals. So the ads say that the AARP opposed our boys in uniform but supports boys who want to marry each other.

The earnest and well-intentioned think it's scurrilous and degrading to bring campaign dirty tricks into the serious business of fundamental social policy. I mean this is heavy stuff — intergenerational ethics, greedy geezers, the fiscal rights of the unborn, out years, privatization, assumed rates of returns. This is for the grown-ups.

Well, I say let's give sleaze a chance.

It's not like the "grown-ups" have done such a great job. This is like the fifth Social Security "crisis" we've had just since they cancelled "Dynasty." And we're still hearing about how the system's crash is hiding just beyond the next dawn of red ink. The massive and greedy Baby Boom generation, we've been told endlessly, is going to retire in velvet on the backs of people named Tiffany and Ethan who are now six and will be taxed at 104 percent when they get jobs. It's really bad!

But the grown-ups haven't managed to get much done except gridlock themselves into pretzels of pandering. Commissions, schlomissisions. Politicians, schmoliticans.

3. No joke - this was ad they were running earlier in the week

on American Spectator.

I think they did it to get this kind of attention. Free publicity ala what they got with their Swift Boat Ads when cable nets ran them for free ad nauseum.

One of their spokespeople said the ad was true cause AARP didn't lobby for veterans and opposed the Ohio Anti-Gay Union law (AARP did this in my understanding cause it also would affect heterosexual co-habitating Seniors).

5. Hey!
Is that Guckert on the right?

Seriously, no rightwing reference to how "bad" homosexuality is should be allowed to slide by without a reference to that mess.

4. Right - let the adolescents have a go at SS - so they show a photo
meant to juxtapose patriotism with homosexuality and get it much press play. Equating gay rights with wanting soldiers dead. Spreading the meme that if left to it - the Liberals will have armies of pink shirted dandies representing the USA abroad.

That is the first thing the adolescents did when given the chance to rethink SS.

The second thing they did (well actually the first) was introduce the idea of SS reform but not give any details. Creating a huge amount of irresolvable anxiety in people of all ages. Why on earth would you do that?

Because you are not a witless child - because you are SOCIOPATHS and have "plans" for the great amount of irresolvable anxiety created in the public by introducing reforms to SS but not giving any details.

The better question: What are Karl Rove's plans for all that 'needlessly caused anxiety' and does it involve wearing down the fight in Liberals? Causing low levels of depression and apathy over time?

Children? MY ASS!
