Woman Fined for Bungling Mexican Anthem
MEXICO CITY -- A woman who fumbled a few phrases of Mexico's national anthem while singing the song before a soccer game in Guadalajara has been fined $40 for the blunder.
..........
Madrigal, who could not immediately be reached for comment, could have been fined as much as $880 under Mexican law regarding the national seal, flag and hymn.

Officials decided to apply a $40 fine after taking into consideration Madrigal's economic situation -- and the fact that thousands of spectators from across Mexico witnessed the performance.
..........
The fine indicates the government's commitment to ensuring "the necessary respect that patriotic symbols deserve," the statement said.

1. Someone really needs to ask Bush* ...
... what is his fascination with Mexico (cf. "Arbusto"), and why is he determined to turn the U.S. economy and society into a northern, larger version of Mexico's?

2. Mexico does not use its national symbols for commercial or propaganda
purposes as they are here. It is considered disrespectful to display the Mexican flag for commercial purposes. The right wing couldn't handle it if it were like that here.

3. And most of the rest of us couldn't handle
the concept of innocuous, illegal speech.
