WP: Victory for "Values," but Whose?(OH, marriage amendment; PA, none)
A Victory for 'Values,' but Whose?

By Joel Achenbach
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, November 4, 2004; Page C01

To understand why America skewed red on Election Day, you might talk to Gary Bauer, the conservative activist, former Republican candidate for president and creator of an organization called Americans United to Preserve Marriage.

The group spent a million dollars in Ohio, Michigan and across the country. It warned voters that a nation led by John Kerry might be one in which homosexuals could get married -- and not just two at a time....

***

Not long ago, this might have been considered a somewhat fringe viewpoint, a trifle alarmist -- "polygamy" just isn't something you hear people talking about in Washington political circles -- but gay marriage now seems essential to any conversation about the 2004 election. The exit polls pointed to a huge boost for Republicans from voters who said their biggest concern was "moral values."

The term wasn't defined, and Democrats spent much of yesterday protesting that they have morals and values, too. The term is basically a code phrase for abortion and gays. For some people, particularly religious evangelicals, these issues are even more important than Iraq, terrorism, the economy, health care, the environment and education. Moral issues gnaw at the guts of people who think they know right from wrong and normal from sick. The reelection of George W. Bush as the 43rd president of the United States appears to be at least in part because of a fear that liberals favor marital unions among sodomites.

Ohio may have lost a couple hundred thousand jobs during the tenure of President Bush, but Kerry, despite all his trips to the state, couldn't turn it from red to blue. Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, another conservative group that spent many hundreds of thousands of dollars on the gay marriage issue, said yesterday that Ohio and Pennsylvania have similar demographics. Bush won Ohio, and Kerry won Pennsylvania. The difference, he argues, was that Ohio's ballot included an amendment to ban gay marriage....

3. Yea, the Bible Belt is Spreading Out
People on the coasts just don't get it. But we here in the Bible Belt do.

We are heading for a theocracy. The Evangelicals were using the Republican Party to set up their power base - and they have succeeded.

Moral Values - what a hoot! Tom DeLay is such a model of Moral Values. So is Dick Cheney. And Bush. But they are useful to the Evangelicals who want to control the country.

I don't look good in black. But the Puritan thing might just be on its way back.

6. I think you have that backwards. I think De Lay, Cheney and Bush
have used the Evangelicals. Bush started this in 88 when he saw Robertson beat his dad in Iowa. He went to school on it and didn't miss a class.

7. Some of us do see it coming.
We have for years. I think the blue states and red states will never work this out. There will be either a civil war or sucession.

Right now the dems. can still fight these reds but if the elections of 2006 are also allowed to be stole we will have no power to stop them. And I'm afraid that is the point we have to reach before we take the drastic steps necessary.

I refuse to live under the red state taliban.

9. No we have to infiltrate their churches and sow discontent
if we are going to win this battle we literally will have to go to church ourselves and turn the churches blue one at a time..kinda like the French underground

13. I guess I'll have to start attending bible study again
This won't be easy.

4 years to turn them bluer... The first year or so will be 'wasted' on re-learning the code. That leaves 3 or less to come out and make them less afraid.

Anyone got suggestions for reading material to keep me sane?

11. Not that bad
We don't have to accept what they shove down our throats and we can win back the country in our democratic ways.

Instead of spreading fear, uncertainty and doubt - work on your local level and build up the infrastructure we need to spread out and cary local municipalities on up to each state.

Ground war people - we can win with our hearts and minds. Don't give in!

5. The evidence mounts.
This is Official Conspiracy Theory for Election 04. It was a fraudulent, stolen election, just like 2000. The morality issue is a smokescreen.

10. Another Council For National Policy goon
Gary Bauer was President of the Council for National Policy from 1988-1999. He's taken money from the Moonies and appeared at events with Sun Myung Moon. This isn't about religion for these assholes, it's about money and power.

12. Ohio and PA both went the same way in 2000 and 2004
and there was no gay anything on the ballot in 2000.

There was also a concerted effort to disenfranchise voters in Ohio.
In PA they did not have a SoS willing to help them steal the election.
