NewsMax, DISH Network Air ‘Stolen Honor’
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 11:14 PM by desert
After all the work to get Sinclair to back off, it appears NewsMax has decided to do a media blitz of "Stolen Honor." I went to email a complaint and found my IP number prominently displayed in the instruction section, which was disconcerting. A look at the menu bar of their "Inside Cover" shows clearly that this media group is strictly anti-Kerry.

14. Thank Goodness for Robert Redford
He's a quiet celebrity voice as he's not a publicity seeker but he really dedicates his life to truth and good works. A real American hero.

22. Sundance is Must See TV Monday evening
They are showing other documentaries besides "Unprecedented" and "Uncovered" and "Bush's Brain".

Don't forget the Al Franken Show at 10:30 CST.

And PBS's Frontline is re-airing "The Choice".

3. It is despicable but I think it will not work.
I think Bush, Inc is starting to face the reality that it will probably be out of office very soon. This stupid little film will not sway enough people to matter.

hype, hate and discontent: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsmax
Note who owns and funds "newsmax.com" . . . big surprise, huh?!!

edit: A day or two ago this sham "movie" was a paid "infomercial" on WMUR-TV, Channel 9, Manchester, NH. Big deal. I saw portions of it and was unimpressed. It looked as it was: unsubstantiated allegations by tired old fools. What else is new when rightwingnuts try to push their wares? Richard Mellon Scaife and his boys are just as foolish as those shown in this attempted smear.

And, here's further information about "NewsMax Media, Inc." Although I am not recommending this message board (perspectives.com) for accuracy, this particular user named Pigasus gives an accurate short overview of NewsMax: http://www.perspectives.com/forums/forum4/9054.html

6. It's all paid advertising, correct?
They know nothing can be mounted at this point in time. They sure kept this one quiet!

I've heard that the movie is such over the top smear shit that it's effect is pretty minimal.

15. Yeah, I think in this case Rev. Moon (through Newsmax) is paying for these
informercials rather than the stations donating the airtime to the Republican Party and/or trying to pass them off as "news".

7. So?
This isn't broadcast or even cable, the only people who would be willing to pay money to see this won't be voting for Kerry anyway.

11. The article on NewsMax says they are airing this
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 12:01 AM by desert
on local stations "across the nation, including ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates." It just burned me up.

This is what the FCC wrote back to me when I filed a complaint about Sinclair/Stolen Honor:

"Broadcasters, like all media, have broad discretion in choosing content. Provisions of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and Section 326 of the Communications Act serve to prohibit the Commission from engaging in censorship. As a result, the Commission generally cannot prohibit a station from airing a specific program, and we could not have stood in the way of Sinclair Broadcasting airing “Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal” or a program that aired parts of it.

At the same time, the FCC has rules and policies that require broadcasters to provide comparable time under certain circumstances. The licensee’s obligation to provide comparable time is determined in light of all the relevant facts of a particular case. Enforcement of these regulations and policies is initiated when a candidate for public office files a complaint with the Commission alleging that a station or cable system has not complied with its obligations. To date, the Commission has not received a complaint from any candidate alleging a violation of the Commission’s political rules or policies. Because of the significant public interest involved, we are prepared to act expeditiously to determine compliance with our rules and policies in this area.

To the extent some people have suggested that Sinclair’s airing of this program constitutes an inkind contribution to the Bush campaign, that is not a matter for the FCC to consider. Rather, complaints in this regard should be directed to the Federal Election Commission."

Maybe that's why Sundance can broadcasting Bush's Brain etc tomorrow night. At least we're getting some balance, but then again, Sundance doesn't have the broad distribution of NBC, CBS and ABC either.

The FCC does regulate the media, just think of Janet Jackson's boob. Or maybe don't think of it. But they don't have rules governing political propaganda that (likely) emanates from the Bush Administration during a presidential election cycle. That's a glaring flaw in FCC regs that needs to be fixed.

BTW: Who and when is FH911 being aired?

Comcast is, from what I understand, Repug owned also. Dish *may* be Repug owned, but anyone competing against Rupert Murdock's empire get's my vote.

17. Dish is showing
F911 and Stolen Honor for one night only tomorrow night on PPV, both for $3.99.

They're also showing Going Upriver and some movie about Bush and his Faith, also for $3.99

Seems fair to me. I don't think it will really matter much at this point, though.

27. Forbidden films of John Kerry
Wasn't that the name of the show? I saw the last hour of it, and it was pretty good. showed large portions of both films, and talked about how the ways each one tried to make its point. But, they purposely left the final decision on which one portrayed a correct image of Kerry to the viewer. I saw it on WorldLink, but it was also on Free Speech TV.

28. Yes, I think that was the name. I enjoyed it too.
I got the feeling that it came directly as a response to Sinclair's push on Stolen Honor and they pointed out what Sinclair omitted while trying to make Kerry look bad.

Heck, you can watch this POS for free on the internet and I recommend that you do a few times just to see if your connection can handle the bandwidth. I think it's hilarious that they're wasting money on a ton of paid programming slots.

21. Independent Film Channel showing 'The War Room' and 'Soldiers Pay'
Note: I know IFC is on Dish Satellite Network. IFC's web site leaves a lot to be desired in trying to find out if any other satellite networks or cable stations carry it. If you have it on something other than Dish, please make a post to let others know. Thanks.

SOLDIERS PAY
Airs at 9:35pm, 12am, and 2:15am ET
Monday, November 1

IFC is proud to present the World Television Premiere of "Soldiers Pay," a documentary from acclaimed directors David O. Russell ("I Heart Huckabees"), Tricia Regan, and Juan Carlos Zaldivar.

Originally shot by Russell as an extra for the special DVD release of his film "Three Kings," "Soldiers Pay" was later removed at the studio's request. "Soldiers Pay" presents viewpoints on the war in Iraq from all sides of the spectrum, including veterans, Iraqis who rose up against Saddam after the Gulf War, journalists, politicians, psychologists and a two-star general who led the U.S. Marines to victory in the Gulf War.

THE WAR ROOM
Airs at 8pm, 10:15pm, and 12:35pm ET
Monday, November 1

Acclaimed documentarians Chris Hegedus ("Startup.com") and D. A. Pennebaker ("Don't Look Back") give us an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at the workings of a presidential campaign as they follow Bill Clinton and his staff on the road to the election of 1992.

I'm running Stolen Honor right now as I'm doing other things. Just click on www.stolenhonor.com and then after it starts to load, minimize it. And don't forget to contribute money to them to pay for all that expensive bandwidth that you are using (LOL).
