Cheney Calls Iraq, Afghan Wars Brilliant

MONTOURSVILLE, Pa. - Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) said Friday the invasion of Iraq (news - web sites) will go down in history, along with the war in Afghanistan (news - web sites), for its "brilliance."



The vice president's comment came as he portrayed the controversy over hundreds of tons of missing explosives in Iraq as a battle pitting Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) against U.S. troops, with Cheney siding with the military.


At an airport rally at a hangar in Montoursville, Pa., Cheney said the U.S. invasions of "Afghanistan and Iraq will be studied for years for their brilliance."


At an earlier rally in Dimondale, Mich., Cheney spoke on the issue of explosives that have disappeared from stockpiles in Iraq. He cited Pentagon (news - web sites) statements about the seizure and destruction by U.S. troops on April 13, 2003, of 250 tons of ammunition, including some of the same type as the missing explosives.

be specific. The soldiers flying bombing missions and patrolling the street, and generally trying to stay alive in this awful misguided war don't need to be lumped in with those who wantonly violate the Geneva Convention and the laws of war. We need soldiers to obey commanders, unless it's clear it's beyond the pale, and those LEADERS need to be accountable. If you're a vet, as you appear, should of all people be attuned to the difference.

Here are a few reality checks for you:

1. We have an all-volunteer force that is being ordered to do too much by ass-clowns that have never done anything at all. I would wager a guess that very few of these people want to be within a continent or two of the Middle East;

2. These folks have reached the point in their personal in-country combat conditioning Hell where they will shoot INDISCRIMINATELY at anything or anybody that they perceive to be a threat. That includes women and children caught in the crossfire...but slaughtered nonetheless;

3. Furthermore, your rector's son will NOT return home in the same mental condition in which he departed for Iraq. He will be put into situations in Iraq that will require instantaneous action...because the perceived alternative to he and his fellow soldiers will be unacceptable.

4. Therefore, my friend Saigon68 is correct when he states that the troops are beginning to exhibit behaviors more likely found among thugs. You don't have to like the description, but it's much closer to reality than the world in which you apprently live;

And yes...I also served in the military back in the mid-'70s to the early '80s. I met a ton of Marines...enlisted and officer alike...with Vietnam demons you can't even start to imagine.

I have been debating "troop supporters" for almost 2 years here now.

My nephew an Apache pilot who is about to be notified of his second rotation back there. I have a personal stake in this shit.

These "thug troop supporters" have no idea how dangerous their propaganda is to the Professionals who are fighting the War. These cowards and criminals have to be weeded out of the professional military. The only way the US military will have any respect is to weed out the criminals.

"Real" professional soldiers, Marines and sailors are appalled by both General Boykin, Charles Graner and Lynndie England.

From the little I know, they are also appalled that the Senior NCOs, Junior Officers and a number of O-5s and O-6s were so incompetent as to allow War Crimes to be perpetrated on th POWs at Abu Ghraib.

And as far as PTSD goes--- as a veteran's service officer I am appalled at the shabby treatment the veterans get and have gotten over the last 35 years.

At the time I was in New Haven, Conn., in listening range of New York news radio. Right after the crash, they interviewed a woman on Long Island who was out by the beach walking her dog. She said that she thought she saw a small plane collide with the jet.
