Dixie Chicks Wage War On Sinclair Broadcasting !
Sinclair Media Alert from the Dixie Chicks!

10/18/04

As musicians, we've had to deal with companies like Clear Channel that have gobbled up over 1200 radio stations, taken over concert venues, and undermined the ability for musicians to connect with their fans. Clear Channel also uses its power to promote a pro-Republican, pro-war agenda.

Now we have a giant television company that is making Clear Channel's antics look like a day at the beach. Last week, Sinclair Broadcast Group — the largest owner of TV stations in the U.S. — ordered its 62 stations to air an anti-Kerry documentary a few days before the election. Their aim is clear: use their monopoly rights to the public airwaves — in clear violation of the spirit of the law — to sway the election in favor of a candidate that staunchly allows media companies to get even bigger.

Sinclair is the Clear Channel of TV, producing news segments at "News Central" in suburban Maryland and forcing local stations to air them as "local news." Great for Sinclair's bottom line...terrible for our democracy.

6. Wow - I hope a Kerry administration and Democratic congress will...
..bring these musicians to DC to testify about why big media needs to be broken up!

We know the repugs will never have the guts to do it.

8. Was never into country, but...
After the Dixies blasted Bush and took such crap for it, I eneded up listening to some of their stuff, pleasantly surprised...they're a lot more talented that so many other crap country acts.

"Travelin' Soldier" is a good song; it made me think of the kids in Iraq.

19. I agree.
They really are talented performers.

I don't usually care for country, either.

They could have just caved after they were attacked so viciously, and their CDs destroyed publicly. Many other people have done that. Instead, they stood up for themselves.

Maybe part of the reason I tune out county music is the Ronald Reagan mom-and-apple-pie attitude they take toward politics. There could be some other talent there that I am overlooking. Maybe I am being unfair.

There was a country singer at the Kerry/Edwards rally in Des Moines, too. I can't recall who it was, because my daughter who was there just referred to him as "some country sinter." Does anyone know who it was?

Country music is about working people and the hard times they have. Why should it belong to the repukes? Why should they be allowed to take over this, as they have taken over much of the language about family values and what it means to be American?

You may give country another chance. This is the toughest anti-Bush song I've heard:

9. hmm. bottom line? i don't think it's very good for their bottom line at
the moment, but maybe they're banking on keeping bush in so they can keep those stations. will Kerry reverse the decisions at the FCC to eliminate companies like Sinclair?

12. Dixie Chicks got a sell-out hugely supportive crowd in Greenville S.C.
Last year back when Natalie Maines got in such hot water with her comment about being ashamed Bush was from Texas, they launched a big tour that the media and RWingers forecast would be disastrous due to negative public opinion. Instead, their first sell-out show was in Greenville S.C. where they got outstanding support and applause from fans. The rest of their tour went well from there and their CD's have done quite well.

20. I went to their Top of the World concert in Seattle
I liked their music before, but after the concert I was definitely a fan.

When they played Truth No. 2, they said (paraphrase), "We didn't know what this song was about when we recorded it, but now we know." Then while they performed, they showed footage of censorship (such as book burning, destruction of Beatles paraphernalia, etc.). Now I always think about that when I hear that song.

22. PLEASE get this Sinclair Flash ad out to as many people as possible
Way to go Dixie Chicks!! I'm trying to use my talents to help as well..

PLEASE Get my flash attack ad out to as many people as possible - it stresses the fact that THEY Would not allow the Nightline program to HONOR the fallen troops -- THIS IS AS IMPORTANT as spamming advertisers..

THIS is what will piss off even freepers.. Regular Americans will be livid if they know Sinclair WON'T support the troops, and DIDN'T BEFORE!

All the links are clickable easy to use and helpful, the more people that get it the more damage we can do to those bastards!

Turn up your speakers and get the word out with MEDIA as well..

Don't forget to WRITE to the Advertisers that have folded and THANK THEM -- when we did our Limbaugh Boycott we found that that is what helps them feel like they did the right thing..

Here's "Our Media is Broken"

Skinner was kind enough to post this flash on the main page but it sort of got chopped due to the debates and DU having to rig for heavy traffic..

23. Who cares what celebrities say about politics?
We shouldn't care what celebrities say about politics!

Unless they are Dennis Miller, Matt Stone, Trey Parker, NASCAR drivers, Arnold, Rush Limbaugh, or any other Republican!
