Kerry dismisses criticism of 'global test' remark as 'pathetic'

HAMPTON, New Hampshire (CNN) -- Sen. John Kerry on Monday lambasted as "pathetic" scaremongering, Republican criticism of his comments during last Thursday's debate in which he said the president's decision to go to war should pass a "global test" of legitimacy.

Asked during a town hall meeting in Hampton to explain what he meant, the Massachusetts senator said, "It's almost sad; it's certainly pathetic, because all they can do is grab a little phrase and try to play a game and scare Americans."

He added, "They're misleading Americans about what I said. What I said in the sentence preceding that was, 'I will never cede America's security to any institution or any other country.' No one gets a veto over our security. No one.

So they resort to tired quips and familiar refrains and hope that if they say it enough the sheople will begin to accept them as truth.

I really believe the Republican party has begun utilizing the tools of mass brainwashing - it's the only chance Idiot King has of retaining his dunce chair throne.

We need to have every Dem saying the same thing all day long.

And we need to attack, not defend.

People think Bush is a strong leader because he attacks.

Don't people listen and read!?!?!? Kerry states it must pass the "global test where your countrymen (I take this to mean Americans), your people understand fully why ...."

I think that even now, today, if you ask Americans why we went to war against Iraq, we would get at least 20 different answers and most of those have been proved wrong, made up or just not even in the realm of things! Therefore, this decision, this war, would not pass the global test Kerry was talking about!

The statement had nothing to do with "getting France's permission" as our local RW radio host said!

"Pathetic" is exactly the word my wife and I used to describe this Bush ploy to mislead, misconstrue, warp, twist and distort--as usual--anything he possibly can to gain some small advantage, real or imagined.

This deceitful tact is unworthy of a President of the United States.

Any other President--even Reagan--even Nixon--would have been universally excoriated for this lie. But little shrubby just keeps rollin' along.

by focusing on this one lie, the more pathetic they look. They are actually now, on the defensive, even though Bush may think he is playing offense. Pathetic. Do they think that 63 million people do not have eyes, ears and a brain? What an insult to his own people.

They are underestimating the power of a group of people that large.

I knew that Kerry never said anything about requiring a global test. On the contrary, I remember him specifically saying that no country would have a veto on our national security.

That's why the GOP's global test spin didn't bother me that much. Oh sure, the GOP network (talking radio, Fox News and online) did a good job of all echoing the Global Test lie. I knew what Kerry said, 63 million people knew what Kerry really said, and the transcript/video of the debate shows exactly what Kerry said.

The Kerry campaign was smart about this. They let the Global Test thing simmer for a few days, until it spread about the GOP faithful, and finally to the mass media. And then, Kerry responds to these charges, DIRECTLY. The record shows exactly what he said, and he can leverage this to maximize his media coverage.

The mainstream media are obligated to report the news, though the are often lazy about it. Kerry's response turns this into bigger news. The GOP is lying. The video sound bite from the debate shows a firm and resolute Kerry saying that No county will hold veto power on US security -- not even Poland.

I don't know if I would call this rope a dope, but Bush really messed up big time on the debate. I think he came across as a devious fruitcake to most of the people who watched. Kerry seemed so much more steadfast and unwavering. You can bet the faltering Bush clips wer seen by millions more than who watched the debate.

The reason this Sociopath has avoided press conferences is obvious. One thing about TV is that appearance on it exposes a person's character unless they are damn good actors. W has shown what he is; a pathetic excuse of a Pres. He was appointed to a job that is so far out of his capacity that only the most brainwashed cannot see that it is so. It has been repeatedly stated that W is "just one of the folks". That lie is exposed. The Anmerican people may not be, by and large, sophisticated and educated but they are not, for the most part, devoid of elementary brian function.

Poor rightwingnuts and bush & Cartel are SO STUPID, they don't know what the definitions of GLOBAL are. Here's what Merriam-Webster Online dictionary (that's a thick book with a lot of words, dear rightwingnuts) defines;

Pronunciation: 'glO-b&l
Function: adjective
1 : SPHERICAL

2 : of, relating to, or involving the entire world : WORLDWIDE (global warfare) (a global system of communication); also : of or relating to a celestial body (as the moon)

3 : of, relating to, or applying to a whole (as a mathematical function or a computer program) (a global search of a file)

Obviously Kerry didn't mean #1; or is bush arguing that Kerry wants a ROUND TEST and bush wants a SQUARE TEST?

Obviously Kerry didn't mean #2 (the meaning bushCartel have chosen as Kerry's meaning) because OBVIOUSLY the #2 definition DOES NOT FIT with what Kerry actually SAID.

Obviously Kerry meant the #3 definition, which DOES FIT with what Kerry actually said;

"that passes the global test where your countrymen, your people understand fully why you're doing what you're doing and you can prove to the world that you did it for legitimate reasons."

So either bush & Cartel are STUPID and need to go back to junior high English classes...or they believe the US majority are STUPID and can continue to be DUPED CONNED FOOLED TRICKED.

PERIOD.
