Attack Wounds Four U.S. Soldiers in Iraq

FALLUJA, Iraq (Reuters) - Four U.S. soldiers in Iraq were wounded on Thursday when a bomb exploded in a hotbed of anti-occupation sentiment west of Baghdad, a military spokeswoman said.

Hundreds of local people marched in the town of Falluja after the attack, chanting slogans praising ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and denouncing President Bush.

U.S. soldiers sealed off and searched part of the town, about 60 miles from Baghdad, after the attack. A military medical helicopter took casualties from the scene.

"An IED (improvised explosive device) exploded beneath a bridge," the spokeswoman said. The attack happened around 1:30 p.m. (5:30 a.m. EDT) but few other details were available, she said.

1. If any of them (hopefully not) die later, will it be reported?
I can't recall hearing any announcements about soldiers dying after goint to a hospital, it seems incredible that it hasn't happened...or maybe I've just missed any such reports (?)

2. Iraq has a really stubborn case of anti-occupation sentiment

Increased raids, crackdowns, 8000 people hauled off and about half unaccounted for, untold civilians killed and maimed, kicking down doors, beatings, humiliation, robbery... and still we keep finding these stubborn pockets of anti-occupation sentiment.

Maybe they should just ban it.

3. Perhaps a nice round of tax cuts for the Iraqis would fix everything up?
Seems to be the pat answer for any problem in this country from little boots.

4. we need more troops there..
Regardless of what Rumsfeld or the "peace" activists say. We also need to attempt to establish an Iraqi security force. Frankly the people on DU who call these people killing our troops with carbombs and sniper shots are a bunch of idiots. They don't even deserve a second thought.

9. unlike you..
I'm a realist. We can't leave until Iraq has a government and standing army. Repeating cliches doesn't protect international security.

10. cliches
Change that from 'realist' to 'imperialist'...

You're the one repeating the same old tired cliche...

We are the ones creating chaos in their country... when we leave, the Iraqis will put their country back together. Surprisingly they have been around for 5,000 years without our 'help'.

"They can't do it without us" "We can't back out now"

Pure Bullshit. Used by the apologists and cheerleaders on this board during the war.

11. Chaos?
And I thought that the guy with the mustache throwing people into woodchippers and the suicide bombers were the ones doing that.

Sure, the war was a dumb idea, but dumping them faster than a drunken prom date the next morning isn't very compassionate.

12. Iraq wasn't in Chaos until we showed up
I'm afraid we killed far more people than Uday or Qusay ever did... and as for inhumane treatment... did you see the pics of the U.S. soldiers hauling around the POWs? I guess what you don't know, won't rock your world.

But it's good to know that you buy all the USA Today reasons for staying in Iraq: "How will those poor people ever cope without us?"

Guess what? All those car bombs and attacks are messages telling us that they think they can do just fine without us.

6. What the media resolutely and willfully ignores...
...is just what "wounded" often means -- arms or legs blown off, blindness, etc. Incredible suffering, life-long consequences.

7. I guess those "dead-enders" don't get it ....
Dumsfeld says things are great in Iraq; why don't the Iraqis feel that way?
