Republican Lawmakers Ask CBS to Retract Bush Story
http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000103&sid=a6qu0SnoWpno&refer=us

Sept. 15 (Bloomberg) -- A group of 40 House Republican lawmakers asked CBS News to retract a story alleging that President George W. Bush received preferential treatment while serving in the Texas Air National Guard.

The lawmakers, in a letter to CBS News President Andrew Heyward, said documents cited in the report may be forgeries and that CBS had become ``part of a campaign to deceive the public and to defame'' Bush.

``We urge CBS to retract its story, and to disclose the identities of the people who have used your network to deceive your viewers in the final weeks of a presidential election,'' wrote the lawmakers, including House Republican Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri.

The secretary for the Texas Air National Guard colonel whose memos were cited by CBS told ``60 Minutes'' she didn't believe the memos were genuine but that their content was accurate. ``I know I didn't type them; however, the information in them is correct,'' Marion Carr Knox, 86, said in an interview aired tonight. ``Bush didn't think he had had to obey the rules that others did,'' she said.

6. Anyone have a list of those 40?
So we can write and tell them our opinions of their low regard for freedom of the press and request that they write Bob Novak to ask him to reveal his source on Valerie Plame.

19. Freedom of speech is not allowed in Republican circles
It reminds me of how vicious they were with Clinton....it was non-stop from the moment he was sworn in. With their candidates, of course, no one is allowed to ask ANY controversial questions. I think it has something to do with the fact that God is on their side!

It's funny that they could only get 40 of them to do this. It shows that some of them have a sense of shame.

24. "The information in them is correct" HMmm.....
A thought. What if the memos WERE forged...by the GOP?

It would make a perfect "poison plum" for Rove to insert into the discourse, causing all future talk of Bush's miserable service to be discounted as "unverifiable" and "oh, you know that's fake, right?"

This would fit in with Rove's modus operandi quite well.

"The secretary for the Texas Air National Guard colonel whose memos were cited by CBS told ``60 Minutes'' she didn't believe the memos were genuine but that their content was accurate. ``I know I didn't type them; however, the information in them is correct,'' Marion Carr Knox, 86, said in an interview aired tonight. ``Bush didn't think he had had to obey the rules that others did,'' she said. "

She also said that he kept more memos in his desk that were worse than those to 'Cover his ass'
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=615&e=6&u=/nm/campaign_cbs_dc
"Knox also said that Killian kept personal files on Bush in a desk drawer as "a way of covering his back" in anticipation of later questioning "

35. So 395 are against the retraction, 40 are for it?
There's a total of 435 representatives, and only 40 are asking for a retraction.

Out of 229 republicans, only 40 are calling for a retraction.

That's a stunning number of republicans that did not decide to sign the letter. Interesting.

37. Does this mean the typewriter red herring isn't working?
The first thing one of my coworkers asked yesterday is what the deal was Dan Rather (he is not a big reader). He likes to listen one of them Reich wing radio stations. I told them they were trying to change the subject, they didn't want to rest of world to know about who AWOL really was.

A couple of refreshers about the few things and then he understood the game they were trying to play with his head. He started dissing the radio station he had spent hours listening to. People don't like it when find out they have been lied to after you tell them you are informing them for hours on end
