Dog Drives Off As Owner Watches Hockey
Is this breaking news?

Apparently it is, as I saw it on ABC's front page...

Dog Drives Off As Owner Watches Hockey

WHITEHORSE, Yukon Territory Sept. 16, 2004 — An exuberant dog left in a truck while the owner watched Canada win the World Cup of Hockey managed to throw the vehicle into gear and coast down a city hill.
A man out for a walk called police after seeing the vehicle coast by with a black Labrador retriever behind the wheel.

Police arrived to find the truck in the middle of a road, blocking traffic, with the dog still at the wheel. No one was injured and there was no damage.

Going door to door, police managed to track down the owner.

"Subsequent investigation indicates that the dog was celebrating the Canadian victory in the world hockey game and knocked the truck into gear, causing it to roll down the hill," Whitehorse Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Wednesday in a firmly tongue-in-cheek news release.

4. You have to love the RCMP.
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 07:30 PM by necso
I was channel serving and discovered the RCMP on one of those sick "watch us jam up some losers" shows.

The difference in how they acted (relative to our own) was unbelievable.

Makes me want to move... But, for better or worse, I am an American.

6. Now don't go overboard, The RCMP can be fuckwads too.
Ever heard of Sgt. Pepper of the RCMP?

OTTAWA -- The RCMP officer who earned the nickname Sergeant Pepper at the 1997 APEC summit in Vancouver will be on the front lines at next weekend's Summit of the Americas in Quebec City, once more face to face with demonstrators, once more armed with a can of pepper spray.

Staff Sergeant Hugh Stewart shot to national notoriety after television news programs repeatedly broadcast footage showing him pepper-spraying demonstrators in the face.

He has been flown to Quebec City and is training other officers in crowd-control techniques, the RCMP confirmed yesterday.

One of the most controversial figures in recent RCMP history, Staff Sgt. Stewart wound up testifying before an inquiry about why he felt it necessary to use pepper spray on a group of passive protesters and a CBC cameraman.

14. True.
And of course, there are always bad apples and even bad orchards, as the disease spreads.

Still I remember a scene or two from the program and it was nothing like the other stuff that I have ever seen on these shows. Of course my total viewing time of this other stuff is not an hour total -- but I draw on other experience and knowledge for the domestic kind.

Give me a choice of whom I have to deal with and I'll take the RCMP.

And there are some pretty cool cops domestically too. I remember some thing in the northwest where some streakers got their car stolen and, as I remember, the cops were cool about it. And in the old days(!!), I was let skate plenty of times... but I see little of this any more.

Hey, it's a tough job, and I sympathize, but I treat you with respect -- you treat me with respect.

16. This proves it. Dubya is dumber than the average dog.
The dog seemed to have coasted right along. Chimpy falls off a Segway.
