The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) said in a brief statement on its Web site (www.isro.org) that the satellite was placed in its intended orbit 17 minutes after take-off at 4 p.m. from its spaceport at Sriharikota, 50 miles north of the southern city of Madras.
The 1.95 tonEDUSAT was placed in the orbit by India's launch rocket, Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F01). The satellite has 12 transponders to beam programs to schools and colleges. It would also support "non-formal" education in hundreds of villages across the sprawling country.
EDUSAT is the first education-oriented satellite in India's space program which has mainly involved satellites for communications, broadcasting and weather forecasting.

Other countries care about education, even poor ones, while Bush cares about keeping the population dumb and uninformed to fight in his illegal wars. Sad.
