12. What a load
In addition to the letter from Bush's father, the latest documents contain news releases that the Texas Air National Guard sent to Houston newspapers in 1970 about young Bush, then a second lieutenant and new pilot. "George Bush is one member of the younger generation who doesn't get his kicks from pot or hashish or speed," the news release said. "Oh, he gets high, all right, but not from narcotics."

Three decades later, a new book by Kitty Kelley has alleged that Bush used cocaine while he was a student at Yale University and later at Camp David while his father was president.

Is the timing not seriously suspicious? Of course we will never heard from the supposed newspaper either.

54. REALLY? Why Would The ANG Even MENTION Kicks From Pot Hashish Or Speed?
unless someone ASKED them to.

Maybe Poppy sent Junior to report to TANG with the above mentioned Press Release pinned to his shirt...

"doesn't get his kicks from pot or hashish or speed"

This is so fake it is insulting!

65. I'm guessing it's a joke.
A cheesey "Reefer Madness," health class film, type of joke.

He "flies high" in the National Guard as a pilot. Not high on drugs.

Although he was, apparently, doing both. ;-)

66. How about this...let's pull a repuke...I don't believe the docs are real..
Haven't seen them, don't believe them, and am I to believe that daddio bush was actually able to write and speak english back then?
The paper they are printed on is rice paper, not offical paper of DOD.
The ink is from Peruvian monks blood, not offical ink, unless you can produce a peruvian monk that worked in the white house back then.
You get the point. We can play the same way

He said (I'm paraphrasing here) that this despite the fact that the WH had previously said they had released "pretty much everything" (direct quote). Arrrrgg! They said they ABSOLUTELY did release everything. Not "pretty much" everything. What an effing shill this guy is!

A packet of Texas Air National Guard records newly released Friday showed that the commanding officer of President Bush's basic training unit took a special interest in him as a trainee and wrote to his father to praise his son.

Bush's father, then a congressman from Texas, said in reply to the commander, ``That a major general in the Air Force would take interest in a brand new Air Force trainee made a big impression on me.''

Bush went on to say that his son ``will be a gung ho member'' of the Air Force and that Air Force instructors had ``helped awaken the very best instincts in my son.''The letter and other material were the latest in a stream of documents released about Bush's service three decades ago during the Vietnam War, when Bush's critics say he got preferential treatment as the son of a congressman and U.N. ambassador. Critics have also questioned why Bush skipped a required medical examination in 1972 and failed to show up for drills during a six-month period that year.

In addition to the letter from Bush's father, the latest documents contain news releases that the Texas Air National Guard sent to Houston newspapers in 1970 about young Bush, then a second lieutenant and new pilot. ``George Bush is one member of the younger generation who doesn't get his kicks from pot or hashish or speed,'' the news release said. ``Oh, he gets high, all right, but not from narcotics.''

Three decades later, a new book by Kitty Kelley has alleged that Bush used cocaine while he was a student at Yale University and later at Camp David while his father was president.

Until the children got settled, just like second grade. Nope, no preferential treatment here.

Well, then I wish he'd wake UP already!
Devastating the environment, stealing from Social Security to finance and illegal war, bombing and raping civilians, squeezing out the middle class, giving tax breaks to all his rich contributors,
9-11 on his watch while he was on vacation....
Are these his very best instincts?

43. Um, this is misleading in that it appears to make assumptions, and it
seems to be written for RW propaganda purposes in order to cast Bu$h is a good light. For instance:

"A packet of Texas Air National Guard records newly released Friday showed that the commanding officer of President Bush's basic training unit took a special interest in him as a trainee and wrote to his father to praise his son."

I do not see any indication in this article whatsoever where Bu$h's CO wrote to his father to praise him. In fact the article says:

"The file does not contain Greene's letter to Bush's father, but shows the letter his father wrote back."

We are truly living in the era of Orwellian newsspeak. The US media is so biased toward Bu$h it is pathetic. These so called "journalists" are nothing but paid RW propagandists in the finest Goebbels tradition. Almost every story I read about Bu$h or Kerry is laced with insidious RW propaganda.

18. Does NY Times Now Have All Docs Or Is WH Selectively Releasing Docs?
The early docs don't look that damaging.

Still, there is no indication as of yet that the White House has released everything or if they are releasing the docs some at a time which would imply selective release timed for the Friday news.

Like everyone here as noted (we have all become so jaded with this administration), this is a classic Friday evening bad news dump.

Karl Rove is a very, very evil man.

Rove plays games as 1,100 soldiers are dead, 20,000 soldiers are wounded, and tens of thousands of Iraqis are dead.

Evil.

58. Scott McClellan:
"Ok, so I know I SAID we released everything the last three times. But this time, I REALLY mean it.

For now.

Unless someone else finds something we don't like."

Unbelievable. And nobody's gonna call them on it, either.

61. At least right now..
the CNN online story on this includes a comment that:

"The White House has said repeatedly that all of Bush's Guard records have been disclosed, only to be embarrassed when new documents have turned up."

But you're right: people don't seem to care.

64. The thing is...
Even IF they honestly believed they had found everything the last three times (I know, I know... but hear me out...) what does that say about the people running the country? They can't even track down Bush's old military records and we're supposed to trust them to track down terrorists? They thought they had uncovered all relevant documents three times now, and have been wrong three times, and we're supposed to trust them with our national security? WHY do people still support these idiots??

76. Welcome to DU!
It is a terrible indictment of either the Pentagon's competence or the White House's dishonesty, isn't it?

I think that a lot of Americans are catching on to this nonsense.

67. What we have here is a classic Mutual Brown Nose Society
Watching G.H.W. Bush and his spoiled, silver-spoon-up-his-nose brat's TANG commander shoving his nose up the other guy's ass - even from the safe distance of 30+ years -is just plain nauseating. But not surprising.

73. Flying high (or not, as was the case)
"George Bush is one member of the younger generation who doesn't get his kicks from pot or hashish or speed"

Wonder why they left out the next sentence that read:

"Nope, he goes straight for the BLOW! All that other stuff is minor league for George!"

79. Gung ho enough not to fly a plane after just 4 years
What a load of PR cr*p.

Then every NG member that flew more than 4 years must be "gung ho".
