Cheney telephones Clinton to wish him well, share experience with similar surgery

Saturday, September 4, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(09-04) 15:39 PDT COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) --

Vice President Dick Cheney, who has had four heart attacks, called former President Clinton on Saturday to wish him well with his upcoming heart bypass surgery.

"I just called to let him know we were thinking about him," Cheney told reporters aboard Air Force Two. "I've been through a similar experience before. The key was to have the good sense to go get checked if you thought you had a problem, which he obviously did."

Cheney said he told Clinton about having undergone a quadruple bypass 16 years ago.

"I was living proof of the wonders of modern medicine," Cheney said.

2. I can't stand Cheney, but if he was acting like a human being, good
It may just be a cheap and convenient way put some meat on the "compassionate conservative" bones, but I will take it at face value. It was a decent gesture on Cheney's part (words I never thought I would write).

After they made such a big deal with Reagan's death, they don't want the Democrats to get an entire week of feel-good press.

5. I've been thinking since I heard this news yesterday
that the repugs must be going nuts because the news is full of the Hurrican FRANCES(how dare they name one of those after me...I'm suing soon), and Clinton's health problems. There goes their trumped-up bounce...

:bounce: Frances aka Fran :-)

6. I think it's the fault of all that exercise and dieting...
Not really...the stress from 8 years of battling repugs is probably what did it...but high cholesterol and genetics probably has more to do with.

8. Yeah, but

16 years ago they removed Cheney's heart... he wasn't using it
anyway. I'm not sure Big Dawg wants to go through life a
heartless bastard like Cheney (oh, and Cheney sold his soul
to the devil so he could be President... uh so chimpy
could be president).

17. Really is one of the more decent things we've heard from Crash
-cart. I expect it's part of the plan to soften his image, since they're apparently not willing or able to replace him with someone more palatable to the social moderates.

First the pro-lesbian-daughter statement, now this.

A complete PR ploy. A decent human being would have made the call off the record. It was just a cheap stunt designed to humanize Cheney - which is a hell of a tough assignment.

Clinton should have refused to talk to the snarling bastard.

19. cheney did it for political points, made certain to get that on AP wire

service, so Americans could feel the reTHUGlican compassion....and counter the bush* audience booing at a man about to enter life-threatening surgery....

real compassion is NOT publicized all over the news....plus, IMO it's really rude to demand that someone talk to you while resting from heart pains, shortness of breathe, and mulling an upcoming life-threatening surgery....if cheney really cared, he'd quietly send a card, or some flowers, or donate to the Clinton library...or even apologize for attacking Clinton during his presidency, and after, most recently BLAMING Clinton at the reTHUGlican hate-bash for all of bush*'s failures....

cheney could have apologized for all the LIES he's spread about Clinton to the WORLD:
"we were already in a recession that we inherited from the Clinton failed economic policies...we're LUCKY that gawd sent bush* to save us from Clinton...we've brought integrity and dignity to the White House, because Clinton didn't have any....Clinton vandalized the WH as he left, and STOLE everything on Air Force One...we wouldn't have had 911, if Clinton had done his job....all of this is really Clinton failures....and Clinton's wife, hitlery, is more of the same....it was hitlery that ruined our whole health care system...."

Clinton should have refused to talk to old sneer...told his secretary to give the message: cheney yourself !
