Utah man's anti-Bush sticker prompts visit by Secret Service
The Associated Press

.. Kjar said two agents visited him at his job at a dry-cleaning service and interviewed him for about an hour and 15 minutes. He said they asked him about a broad range of things, including whether he had any ties to terrorist groups or enjoyed reading historical accounts of assassinations.

They also asked Kjar about his friends and family, and even wanted to know how he split up bills with his roommates, he said.

He said the agents asked him to take the paper off his car and give it to them, and didn't gave it back.

Kjar said he feared the agents were going to "take me away."

Now, he thinks his right to free speech was violated, but he said he wasn't sure if he would pursue legal action.

"I kind of feel trapped, like I'm not allowed to express my opinions. I felt like my freedom of speech was shot to hell right there." ,,

5. I wonder....
How would the SS/FBI/et al act if we just showed up at their work and started asking questions about 9/11 and other matters? I don't think they would answer them.

9. What did the sticker say?
Unless it said something about an intended criminal act against Bush, I'd say this is a scary story.

to hang on his locker at work, but now these bozos have me second-guessing myself. I don't want some Bushie reporting him to the SS for investigation and getting hsi name on a list or "terror suspects". He's a PGW-I vet, and doesn't speak highly of the experience. He might say the wrong thing to those nazis and get in trouble.

12. Why not just tell these SS people to screw off?
People need to be more assertive with their rights. Tell them to buzz off and come back with more than BS, assuming they have anything more than BS.

14. The authorities can take
anything that can be remotely interpreted as a threat, blow it completely out of proportion and then visit (harass) the parties responsible.

I have seen this evidenced in a number of cases including that of a friend of mine.

The neos just love using intimidation, and they have the entire federal government at their disposal.

This is a lesson that we would all do well to take to heart. Having the SS or FIB show up at your work or home is not something to look forward to... And heavens knows what lists you might end up on, or what the next steps might be.

Please note that I do not write this to scare people, but rather to urge them to think carefully about what they do, say and evidence in public places, especially places where there are likely to be people who would relish the idea of making trouble for their opponents... and would gloat at the results!

And if I get this thread locked (although I have tried to be careful in my choice of words), I apologize.

But there are people out there looking to harm us. We can ignore them, bait them or tread more carefully -- but at least we should think a little bit about it.

15. OOOOHH!!!
Watch what you say. Be careful not to oject too loudly while your rights are stolen.

Fuck that!!

If I have to go to jail in order to defend my rights to free expression and disdain for the totalitarians running this country, then so be it.

17. standard investigative technique
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 05:32 PM by Romulus
develop a theory of the case, then see if you can find facts that fit.

In some instances, that method leads to viewing all the facts in a way that MAKES them fit the theory of your case. That way, everything appears sinister while you consider yourself rational.

The authorities can take anything that can be remotely interpreted as a threat, blow it completely out of proportion and then visit (harass) the parties responsible.

Just more info to add to your post.

Implied death threat...if the guy went through with an attempt (and it was our guy rather than Bush) everybody would be up in arms.

You'd rather the Secret Service just hang out waiting for the phone to ring?

maybe I'm not tracking. There is no threat here, as there is no "King". It is the irony of the statement that shows the dissatisfaction with the current administration.

20. I'd like to do something like this, but bigger...
and see the reaction. Put the same sign on a freeway overpass or something. Do you think maybe because I want a reaction I could get in trouble? I dunno the rules there, but I would assume they would not be pleased or forgiving.
