WP,pg1: Cheney Calls Kerry Unfit(Zell "face twisted" in "contempt, anger")
Cheney Calls Kerry Unfit
Democrat Joins Vice President in Barrage Against Challenger

By John F. Harris
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, September 2, 2004; Page A01

....Democrat Zell Miller of Georgia, who abandoned his party to give the Republican keynote address, used the same themes to deliver a bristling attack on Kerry. His voice booming and his face twisted into a countenance of contempt and anger, the senator said that "Kerry would let Paris decide when America need defending; I want Bush to decide."

With invective that thrilled roaring partisans inside Madison Square Garden, the man who gave the Democratic keynote address in this same hall 12 years ago accused Democrats of putting partisanship over patriotism out of a "manic obsession to bring down our commander in chief." Miller added that in Iraq, "today's democratic leaders see America as an occupier, not a liberator."

Cheney was calmer in manner but scarcely less contemptuous of Kerry as he framed the election as a historic choice on "the question of America's role in the world."...

***

The theme for the convention's penultimate night was "Land of Opportunity," designed to tout the administration's economic plans and make the case that prosperity is returning. But the theme of fear -- of the prospect of terrorism, and of the Kerry's alleged inability to fight it -- remained by far the dominant note from the podium....

1. Miller is an idiot
Dems have used common sense to show America the damage the Bush Administration has done. Miller seems to think that you cannot utter a word against King George. And I'm getting a little bit teed off with the French cracks. My husband and I are both part French, and our surname is obvious French as well.

5. Could Miller be going senile?
He certainly sounds paranoid, and he's turning on the party and colleagues that he used to support. Now he's into his 70s, this kinf of thing could be happening.

Hooping and hollering like that?? I'm glad he's gone. What a psycho last night, he must have been promised a new position in the cabinet. He personally attacked Kerry...asshole.

17. Wonder what part of W's destructive actions Zell likes best: environment;
fiscal integrity of the Federal government; international treaties, organizations, alliances, and goodwill; the economy, value of the dollar, and job market; the Bill of Rights, civil liberties, and the rule of law; and pre-emptive war(s) that feature bombardments, invasion, occupation, and torture of prisoners? Hell, maybe Zell likes all these and so much more in aggregate.

31. I've seen this happen to public figures that I know of and a
couple of friends/acquaintances.

For some reason, against all logic, they went really right-wing and were "over the top" in the right-wing way. Charlton Heston comes to mind here. A few years later they were diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.

A neurologist acquaintance says that the damage of Alzheimer's begins to manifest itself long before the diagnosis is made and that it affects reasoning capabilities as well as memories. He says that studies appear to show that complexities are harder to follow and deal with and that simplistic answers are often preferred by these people as the disease begins to show up.

Anyway, it made sense to me. When one of my friends went "right-wing" and became almost irrational with the various claims they make, I was first stunned and then confused. It seemed like logic just didn't work with him any longer and he was an extremely intelligent man and very logical before this. Well, about 3 years after I observed this behavior change, he was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's Disease at age 52.

So, it could be that Zell actually is showing the early stages of a physical/neurological disease. Or, maybe he's just having a good time.

they've helped allow all the poisoning of the citizens of this planet and the Earth itself, so the toxins come home to roost!

Obviously, many of these old creeps suffer from environmental toxicity, which is now being related to Alzheimer's, et al. Mercury especially, irrational reactions are one of the symptoms of mercury toxicity, I know, it killed my Dad.

In the words of the late, great John Lennon "Instant Karma's gonna' get you"

Thanks!

but I'm in Canada, so I don't have to really put up with anti-french sentiment like you guys do in the U.S. :(

I think it's just such lame rhetoric. Ho hum...... Zell Miller is obviously disturbed. :(

3. I just don't get why or how Miller can claim to be a "Democrat:"
And the people in charge of the party seem powerless to stop the little cunt. If I was in charge of the party he would not be supported by the party, he would be expelled and he would have a true Democratic challenger in the next election.

Why does the Democratic leadership put up with this turd?

24. He's a Dixiecrat, NOT a democrat
Remember those guys? Anti-Truman types who tried to split apart the party?

Zig Zag just can't admit to being a republican because Abe Lincoln was a republican, and all those NY Jew republicans came down to the south to register blacks to vote in the 60's. He, like a lot of georgians, will NEVER forgive the republicans for that.

Weird, isn't it?

I wish the Democratic leadership would stip him of that title because if he's a Democratic, I must be close to being a Commmunist.

19. Fantastic
I doubt Franks will actually come out in support of Kerry, but it sure would be nice. Just having him not enthusiastically support Bush is a huge victory, really, considering his background and the fact that he was the top commander for the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
Franks says Kerry qualified for president
WASHINGTON (AP) — Retired Gen. Tommy Franks, producer of the early military successes in Afghanistan and Iraq, said Sunday that criticism of John Kerry's war record is political hyperbole and Kerry is "absolutely" qualified to be commander in chief.

A year into retirement, Franks also said he has not decided whether to endorse President Bush for re-election. "I don't know yet. I'm leaning in that direction," he said on ABC's This Week....

"Do you think Senator Kerry is qualified to be commander in chief?" Franks was asked.

"Absolutely!" he said.

we saw on TV during the civil rights struggle of the 60s. George Wallace and Strom Thurmond had the same yelling, sneering expressions as Miller as they declared, "…segregation forever!"

27. Yes,
Zell reminded me of the old segregationists also. I suspect there are a lot of Zell Miller types in the south. They were quiet for a while but lately the Republicans have led people like Miller to show their true colors. When Miller ran for governor of Georgia, he struck a more moderate tone and some blacks voted for him. I bet they deeply regret that vote.
