GOP hardens stand against gay marriage

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/08/26/gop_firms_stand_against_gay_marriage/

The draft platform already included a call for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage nationwide, an element that was not in previous party platforms. And the section on social issues was amended yesterday to go further, with language added stating that the benefits of marriage ''should be preserved for that unique and special union of one man and one woman," a statement that appears to reject Vermont-style civil unions in addition to gay marriage.

''We believe and the social science confirms that the well-being of children is best accomplished in the environment of the home, nurtured by their mother and father, anchored by the bonds of marriage," the draft platform reads.

The plank was approved last night without discussion or deliberation by the 110-member platform committee, which was meeting at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. The committee also approved language that affirms the GOP's support for a constitutional amendment to ban abortion.

1. "GOP's support for a constitutional amendment to ban abortion."
I guess CNN won't be reporting this.

4. Apparently gay people and their children have no right to this necessity
Unless their child is still unborn, of course.

If marriage and a family home is so important, why are they excluding the parents of some children over the parents of others? Why deny this to some of the children who have parents of the same gender?

The key part, of course, is that it's "one man and one woman", they don't care a whit for the little children that Jesus loves so very much.

How Christina of them.

7. platform
Are they going to prevent married couples with kids from getting a divorce? Are they going to require pregnant women to marry or give up their babies to married couples? The logical next steps.

18. The kicker is
Jesus (is said to heve) talked specifically about divorce, but not about abortion or homosexuality. Or slavery, but that's another story.

I wish they'd be coherent in their fundamentalism. Ham sandwich, anyone?

17. The states already do this, but they don't call it marriage,
For example, many states have ruled that the childrens interests are greater than the fathers interest in choosing his own biological destiny, even if the father is raped.

8. This was in the morning paper (Denver Post)...
An outrage, piled upon all the other outrages. This election has *got* to shatter the Reprehensible Party so they can purge themselves of the extremist cancer that has long been eating them up. Please help candidates who are challenging the worst bigots. You can start here in Colorado, if you will, whee Stan Matsunaka is in a dead heat with our appalling non-representative Marilyn Musgrave!

20. They must feel they are reading the public weal correctly.
It's probably too late to congratulate them and urge them to go even further, since they are supposed to be finished Sunday. One must keep in mind that approximately half the RW base would support an open ended declaration of martial law and rule by edict. The number of folks who are loyal to the government, not the constitution, is staggering.

15. I wish they would take it further
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 10:24 AM by foktarded
I wish they would try to outlaw any homosexual action and impose mandatory prison sentences for any homosexual activity. That would show who they really are. Maybe Santorum will do some off-scripting at the convention, I hope.

If Cheney's recent "independence" really is motivated by a slight force of conscience (after all, even the cruelest leaders may have some love for their own families), we should call in and write him pretending to be freepers asking why he hasn't deported his mutant daughter or at least disowned her for her abominations. Let's see how far his conscience can go.

24. How about they address the fact that most marriages end in divorce?
The failure of the "institution" of marriage makes the whole concept almost laughable.
