Bush backer: Kerry would emulate France (Smith R-Ore)
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 04:34 PM by Nambe
PORTLAND, United States (AFP)

On the same day that US President George W. Bush made perhaps his strongest defense of French foreign policy, a top backer derided Democratic White House hopeful John Kerry for wanting the United States to "act like the French."

"I've often said it's not John Kerry's fault that he looks French, but it is his fault that he wants to pursue policies that have us act like the French," Republican Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon said Thursday. ..

Gordon Smith is Eastern Oregon Cow Dung

unilateral, broke, illegal war, then yeah, he'll probably act a lot like them.

11. He's an odd bird
During his re-election campaign, Matthew Sheppard's mom did a campaign commercial for him.

His son recently committed suicide. Smith recently pushed through some sort of legislation regarding help for suicidial people.

So he's a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes, I think he's not too bad, then he says crap like this.

their marching orders? It is acceptable political discourse to keep saying that John Kerry looks French? Jesus, if this crap works, I am giving up what little hope I have for America to turn things around.

What the hell have they done to us? Oh sure, they like to persue their own policies, but why do the Repubs have to take it so personally?

25. Yes, the French still remember the lessons
of Algeria and VietNam.
Panama, Grenada and Desert Storm have convinced the people of the US that VietNam was an anomaly and all wars now are short and fun. And some one else gets to fight them.
If Bush is elected I will not oppose a draft.

28. could please someone explain this to me?
It seems that the slightest criticism of the US in Europe is terrible, damnable Anti-Americanism - reason for top-level intervention and long features in TV and print media. Yet important US politicians can say loudly and proudly "I hate the French".

Even worse, looking "French" - whatever this may be - is considered bad. Not only that, the pure fantasy that someone might implement French policies - whatever that may mean - seems to constitute a taint. :wtf: . The European Nation with the longest and proudest Democratic and Freedom-loving history is hardly something to avoid.

Of course, if I think of Chirac's RW policies and international law grazing nuclear testing, a certain other party looks a little like the French to me...
