"Why We're Winning the War on Terror" (Ashcroft)
(note: the publication of this article (a speech delivered earlier) is making small headlines elsewhere, although the piece may belong in Editorials. Mods, please move if you think appropriate)

Why We're Winning the War on Terror

By John Ashcroft
American Enterprise Institute | August 20, 2003

(snip)

To address all of the issues surrounding the Patriot Act would require more time than we have here. It is critical, however, for everyone to understand what the Patriot Act means for our success in the war against terrorism. I would encourage Americans to take a few minutes and log on to a new web site, www.lifeandliberty.gov. There, you can read about the Patriot Act, read what members of Congress and others have said about the Patriot Act, and find out how it is keeping our nation safe and secure.

2. Why I'm Beginning To Hate Articles That Begin With "Why"
Edited on Wed Aug-20-03 09:05 AM by rocknation
Like that village in Viet Nam, he's trying to protect the Costitution by destroying it. You could solve the crime problem by locking up EVERYONE. But the fact that it would solve the crime problem doesn't make it a good idea.

GET THEE BEYOND ME, ASHCROFT!
UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN!

3. In listening to NPR news yesterday
Edited on Wed Aug-20-03 09:39 AM by Angel_O_Peace
Asscroft was reported as "on a campaign to DEFEND the Patriot Act."

Defend? Okay, so am assuming that means 1) there is a lessening of support for this Big Brother act, and 2) Asscroft is on the campaign trail for * in tryiong to gain attention for how "safe" the idiot boy has made this country, when in reality our superstructure is very fragile thanks to the BFEE and the GOP shooting down propsed funding for things such as redesigning/updating and strengthing the power grids so massive blackouts/power failures are less likely to occur.

Asscroft is :puke:

4. So the Department of Justice's first priority is to prevent future
terrorist attacks. Sadly, anti-terrorism reportedly was not among the AG's top budget priorities on 9-10 and many anti-terrorist investigative leads were thwarted by those calling the shots all the while whores were being ferreted out in New Orleans, marijuana for medical purposes facilities were being raided in California, and the right-to-die movement being thwarted in Oregon. And remember Ms. Rowley?

5. Ashcroft's one-sided perspective

Yesterday's AEI event was packed with journalists, but Brave Johnny the Soaring Eagle took NO questions after delivering his I-support-constitutional-values schtick.

I wonder whether his entire tour will coast along in a query-free bubble.

8. Ashchroft sez this is what the American people want.
Michael Powell of the FCC is on c-span right now pleading his case by saying this is what the American people want.

Daddy of Michael Powell, Coling Powell sez this is what the American people want.

junior is always saying this is what the American people want.

Rumsfield sez this is what the American people want.

Fox News sez "Fair & Balanced News, you decide.

Why, because there's an election in just about a year! Of course we're winning! Haven't you been paying attention?

And WE ARE winning the war on terror. Get it! WE ARE! Anybody got sumpin' else to say about it? Yeah. Dat's what I thought! (/sarcasm)

10. Incompetent as well as fascist
This speech shows their willingness to keep violating civil rights, but it also shows they're downright stupid with regards to anything they've actually accomplished. This speech is to AEI, this is where they always bring the big guns, not the pop shooters. Look at what he said:

"We know now that there were fatal flaws in our national defenses prior to September 11...

Congress recently completed an 18-month study of the causes of September 11th. Congress’s conclusion...that there was a need for better communication, a need for better cooperation, a need for prevention..."

(What we have is a failure to communicate)

"We have neutralized alleged terrorist cells in Buffalo, Detroit, Seattle and Portland..."

(Oh please)

"To date, we have brought 255 criminal charges. One hundred thirty two individuals have been convicted or pled guilty..."

(For terrorism or immigration violations?)

"Our efforts have been ratified by the courts in legal challenge after legal challenge..."

(Now that's just a lie)

"For two years Americans have been safe..."

(Then why the hell did we go to war 5 months ago?)

They have near total freedom to do whatever they want to citizens and they still can't succeed in finding actual terrorists in this country. They are a disaster no matter how you look at them.

11. HE'S MORE THAN A FASCIST--- HE'S A NAZI
This guy is a real GOOSE STEPPER.

It illustrates the point when a small vengeful personality type gains the ability to use violent power.

14. so, asscroft thinks we've been safe since 08/20/01???? he must
have been totally asleep at the wheel during 09/11/01

"For two years Americans have been safe..."

how can he even say that we are safer, as the UN building smolders in the background....and the electrical power failure proves HUGE gaps in our security....and the pResident plays golf...IMHO, lots of shrub's minions are delusional and on HEAVY prescription drugs...

15. so let me get this straight
we're winning the war because the terrorism has been moved to US targets overseas? Johnny boy, how about the people in the compound in Saudi Arabia? how bout the UN building in Baghdad? How about the Marriot in Jakarta? the bus in Jerusalem? More American civilians have been killed by hostile forces under this administration than under ANY PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION EVER!!! even without 9/11 in the mix, it's still way up there.

this is winning? Johnny, I guess you've put the mortgage on the Bengals to win the Super Bowl, huh? I mean, they've had a bunch of winning seasons in a row now.

16. Graham says Ashcroft will be first to pack his bags
Graham Blasts Ashcroft as Unjust and Bad for America

Atlanta, GA -- "I'm glad Attorney General John Ashcroft has left behind his cozy confines in Washington and is traveling the country to meet with regular folks for once. Hopefully, it will do the Attorney General some good to hear from the American people on how his extreme policies have hurt this nation. I only wish that he would actually listen to the people of America as he tours the country and upon returning to Washington straighten up his far-right Justice Department.

"I feared John Ashcroft would become just this kind of Attorney General when I voted against his confirmation in 2001. His Justice Department has demonstrated a willful lack of commitment to the basic fairness and equality of opportunity that has made this country all that it is today.

"I, along with 98 other United States Senators, supported the passage of the Patriot Act. Never did I expect it to be implemented the way it has. Mr. Ashcroft has chosen to destroy our civil liberties under the premise of personal security and safety; the true spirit in which the law was written.

"If the American people entrust in me the White House, Mr. Ashcroft will be the first person in the Bush administration that cleans out his desk."

19. What is it? American's enthusiasm for corporeal punishment ...
of their infants? What bends their psyches so? What darkness of the heart saddles them with centuries of morons in charge? It ain't love reciprocated, that's for certain. These abominations only regard the herd as sources of revenue. Necessary evils. Everything American -- or human, really -- has been in their crosshairs since their management style first showed itself in mandatory minimum treatment for hapless aboriginals. To whit: "The only good injun is a dead one."

From comic books to condom education, they've hated it all. From punk rock to pagan chic, they've cringed in disgust. From Lenny Bruce to breasts on statuary, these twisted Taliban cried out to bloodthirsty gods for a hundred Pearl Harbors in succession -- the better to win over every jobless draftee, every televangelised martyr, every shorn-of-his-savings shareholder.

This distaste for anything the proles find empowering is made up for by their love of anything that increases their own wealth or prestige -- especially forever frightening the citizenry, and particularly cheap-labor schemes. Prisons, military, uncompensated overtime, deregulation scams -- the litmus test for every new endeavour's viability its faithfulness to the crypto-fascist agenda.

18. Saw him on cspan yesterday speaking to AEI
Realley weird look in his eyes.
He cited that small time NY hustler they stung for the shoulder fired missiles, as an example of sucess in the fight against terrorism. The audience did not even seem to know the story behind this lie. No terrorists were even remotely involved. A circle jerk by intelligence agencies.
Realley strange to see him spouting words with inappropriate eye movements as people sat there just staring. Everyones face looked like they were thinking about dinner or something else.
