Republican Group Says 3 GOP Senators "Playing For The Wrong Team"
The Chattanoogan

TeamGOP Board members Jeff Ward and Reuben Watkins today called for a public apology from Republican State Senators Curtis Person of Memphis, Mike Williams of Maynardville and Tim Burchett of Knoxville for "working against the interests of the Tennessee Republican Party and thousands of Republicans across the state."

Jeff Ward said, “This past Thursday while many Republicans were working the polls trying to elect Republicans to office, these three State Senators were helping Governor McWherter and Speaker Naifeh raise money at a $1,000 per plate for the re-election of Democrat Lt. Governor John Wilder. This is a slap in the face to grassroots Republicans.”

He said, "Perhaps the worse kept secret in state politics these days is the significant investment in time, money and support of Ron Stallings to defeat Wilder. The state party, Tennessee Right to Life, TeamGOP and several Republican groups led by local County Republican Parties have greatly invested in defeating John Wilder.

"With the concerted effort by Republicans to take control of the State Senate these three Senators, Person, Williams and Burchett, are putting their own selfish interests ahead of the Republican Party and its principles."

10. Me too. Actually I'm surprised those
Republicans have not been admonished for crossing party lines on occasion. Maybe their next.

5. I'm surprised TeamGOP doesn't force them to wear a scarlet letter 'D'
and lock them in stocks in the public square. Shame game.

Of course they are going to have to have a LOT of scarlet letters on hand before it's all said and done...as more and more red states turn Scarlet.

11. And as we all know, the GOP doesn't care one bit about the best
interests of the citizens of the state or nation that they have been elected to represent. It's just the interests of the party and the hell to the citizens!

12. Pet peeve

It's Democratic Lt. Governor, not Democrat Lt. Governor.

This paper should place (sic) after the Republicans inability to distinguish a noun from an adjective.

15. My ex Father in Law is a Democratic State Sen. in Tennessee
And let me tell you, Tennessee is one confused state, politically and economically. They have no tax base and have consistently voted one down. I'm not surprised at all that republicans would be chummy with democrats; in this state EVERYBODY is conservative. The democrats represent the old, establishment conservatives and the republicans represent the new, reactionary brand of conservatives. There's not much else, except the black vote which is focused on local issues mainly. It's hard to fathom that this state produced Al Gore (who lives across the street from my ex brother in law). But then again, given the perception that Gore is both a frothing at the mouth liberal AND a flag waving, southern conservative democrat (remember the Washington Wives?), I guess it shouldn't be too hard.

Want proof? Despite representing a wealthy district, that is like 98% republican, my ex in-law has been re-elected as a democrat 6 times. Now you tell me that's not confused. Sometimes I feel like I'm in the middle of Braveheart. Are the Lords really protecting our interests, or theirs? Whose faces would be revealed if we ripped off the helmets?

To this day, my ex father in law, an elected official of the State of Tennessee (who I greatly respect, btw) will not accept a five dollar bill or a penny. Think about it...
