AP: Democrats (DNC) Go on Offensive With Ad
Associated Press

The Democratic Party will go on the offensive Saturday with a new television commercial that accuses President Bush of "favoring corporations that move their headquarters oversees" while praising nominee John Kerry's plan to "export American products, not American jobs."

At the same time, Bush's campaign is rolling out a radio commercial criticizing Kerry on taxes and terrorism, claiming that the Democrat is "just like clockwork" on both issues.

Acting independently from Kerry's campaign, the Democratic National Committee's independent expenditure office will spend another $6 million next week - about the same amount it spent in its first week on the air - to run ads in local media markets in 20 competitive states.

The DNC is filling in for Kerry on the airwaves. He stopped advertising until September to save money for the homestretch. The DNC's first ad - a positive spot that showed part of Kerry's acceptance speech at the nominating convention - will continue to run next week along with the new ad. ..

16. You mean the latest ad, which again exploits September 11...
... for partisan gain?

We're getting absolutely blasted by that ad in Ohio, and when the 9/11 images pop up, I'm literally sick to my stomach.

The President ought to be ashamed of himself. He says "I'm George W. Bush, and I approved this message," so I'm holding him personally responsible for lowering the Office of the Presidency by endorsing this ad.

5. DNC and 527 ads are not endorsed by Kerry
Kerry made a promise to stay positive b/c the DNC and 527s will "pick up the slack" (in august especially) with their own ads, which are expected to be attack ads.

I don't have a problem with that.

6. Kerry & Edwards promised to stay positive, the DNC didn't!
Neiether did MoveOn, or any of the other 527's.

This is an old Pub trick, and I'm the Dems finally adopted it.

Keep your candidate clean and above the fray, and let the surrogats do the dirty work.

9. policy differences
Kerry has always said he'd address policy differences. What they won't do is get down in the mud and sling insulting names and personal attacks. Although who knows what the DNC will do.

14. What Is Your Point, Mr. Being?
Of course the enemy has to be kicked, and kicked particularly hard in the soft places hard to defend.

This is criticism of a policy, and a policy that is widely unpopular among the people: it is not criticism of the person of the opponent, nor is it a smearing distortion of character or policy. The current administration does favor the export of jobs from the U.S. as a means of increasing corporate profits. Its basic desire is to dive down wages and living standards for workers in the United States, to make them more subservient to their bosses.

4. I'd hardly call that going on the "offensive"
I'd say it's pointing out the differences in the candidates. How fucked up is the media? Bush, and his 527 pals are running the most vile attack ads... and the press seems to think that this DNC ad is "going on the offensive"? I guess when the Democrats do anything but cower in the corner and cry, it's news... sheesh.

13. The media will call this ad equal to the Swift Boat ads
Watch, this will be a negative attack ad and they will equate it with the Swift Boat ad.

What it actually is is a policy ad that compares the two candidates, but the media needs to make Kerry look negative, so they will.

And still our side will be scared to really go on the attack.
