Hastert, DeLay Announce 9/11 Congressional Hearings; At Least Six Committees to Hold More Than 15 Hearings

House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) today announced that at least six congressional committees will hold a total of more than 15 hearings during the August District Work Period. Each committee is seeking participation from the 9/11 Commission as they focus on the challenges identified in the final report issued last week and solicit further advice on how to address those challenges.

"I'm pleased our House Committees are moving forward with hearings on the 9/11 Commission Report," said Hastert. "We need them to get a substantive amount of work done in August to help us move forward with legislative recommendations in September and October."

"As the Speaker and I said last week, the House is committed to examining the 9/11 report, and assessing its findings and recommendations as soon as possible," DeLay said. "These hearings this month will begin that process."...Cont'd >

1. They've obviously been planning this for some time...
... and I sure hope it backfires on them. They obviously believe that pulling legislators back to Washington during critical constituent time hurts Democrats more than Repugs. Hope they're wrong.

3. I think that people will remember who stalled the inquiry in the
first place. If they don't, we might have to give them a gentle reminder. Show will not continue to win over substance.

4. hearings on hearings on hearings
We had a Congressional hearing before we had the 9/11 Commission. This is ridiculous.

On or about the early morning hours of June 13, 2004 Border patrol agents from the Willcox station encountered a large group of suspected illegal border crossers, estimated to be around 158, just east of the Sanders Ranch near the foothills of the Chiricauha Mountains. 71 suspected illegal aliens were apprehended; among them were 53 males of middle-eastern descent.

According to a Border Patrol field agent, the men were suspected to be Iranian or possibly Syrian nationals. “One thing’s for sure: these guys didn’t speak Spanish and after we questioned them harder we discovered they spoke poor English with a middle-eastern accent; then we caught them speaking to each other in Arabic…this is ridiculous that we don't take this more seriously, and we’re told not to say a thing to the media, but I have to,” said the agent, who spoke to the Tumbleweed with the promise of anonymity.

we discovered they spoke poor English with a middle-eastern accent

we caught them speaking to each other in Arabic

This story smacks of agriculture... row after row of planted bullshit. Fifty-three Middle Eastern men in a border crossing roundup and the shrub* group isn't out there crowing about Saving the World from Terrah?

8. just reminds me that Bush Is A Flip Flopper
Every time I hear about any congressional hearings or inquirys or anything about looking into 9/11 I just think about how Bush is a flip flopper and how he was firmly against anyone looking into anything after it happened.
