Dr. Laura celebrates 10 years in national radio syndication
Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 02:17 PM by Cocoa
Happy anniversary, you hateful dried up wretch.

Dr. Laura Schlessinger Celebrates 10 Years in National Radio Syndication
- She Broke the Mold in Talk Radio -

When asked about her success, Dr. Laura said, "I consider it a blessing
and privilege to be able to broadcast each day and touch so many lives so
deeply and personally. Each call is a unique opportunity to help someone 'do
the right thing,' while other listeners are moved and motivated by what they
hear in a call."

Mobilizing people to make a difference in their communities and their own
homes, Dr. Laura has come to be known as a watchdog for families and children.
She's famous for coining the phrase, "I am my kid's mom," that evolved into a
movement. Dr. Laura is often credited for empowering millions of people to
put family first, and to do so with pride, despite today's worship of success
and money.

Not surprisingly, this movement has also been perceived as controversial
by those who saw it as a challenge to women's liberation. Her perspective on
family values and the sanctity of parental responsibility also went against
the prevailing current of politically correct pressure to rationalize all
kinds of selfish behavior.

However, in the past few years, increasing numbers of women have begun to
question the wisdom and value of missing out on the joys of hands-on
motherhood and have left prestigious jobs to become "my kid's mom."
Dr. Laura's views on marriage and family seem now to be more common sense than

7. I think the old 'Open letter to Dr Laura' is in order........
Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your radio show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific Bible laws and how to follow them.

a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1 :9). The problem is my neighbors bitch to the zoning people. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21 :7. What do you think would be a fair price for her? She's 18 and starting college. Will the slave buyer be required to continue to pay for her education by law ?

c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense and threaten to call Human Resources.

d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? ....Why can't I own Canadians? Is there something wrong with tham due to the weather?

e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should this be a neighborhood improvement project ? What is a good day to start? Should we begin with small stones? Kind of lead up to it?

f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than
homosexuality. I don't agree. I mean, a shrimp just isn't the same as a you-know-what. Can you settle this?

g) Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading
glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here? Would contact lenses fall within some exception?

h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die? The Mafia once took out Albert Anastasia in a barbershop, but I'm not Catholic; is this ecumenical thing a sign that it's ok?

I) I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing
garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really
necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev.24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted disciple and adoring fan

8. And the NEW letter to Dr. Laura:
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
c/o Premiere Radio Networks
15260 Ventura Blvd, Suite 500
Sherman Oaks, CA 91403
fax: 818-461-5140
Dear Dr. Laura,

We are writing to express our deep concern for the detrimental effects your anti-gay commentaries are having on America's children.

Dr. Laura, with 20 million listeners, you are one of the leading talk radio show hosts in the country.1 Though you have publicly acknowledged that your Ph.D. is in physiology and not psychology, the loyalty of your listeners derives, in part, from their trust that you are relying on mainstream scientific opinion. Yet the anti-gay beliefs you espouse on a regular basis - that homosexuality is "deviant" and that gays can and should be cured2 - are entirely outside the mainstream of scientific thought.

Today, fortunately, it is difficult for public figures to argue that African Americans or Jews are biologically inferior. Yet you have become a leading radio show host while claiming that homosexuality is a "biological error".3

We are concerned that your show, columns, and television appearances are contributing to the fear and hatred of gay and lesbian people. We are especially concerned that your commentaries are teaching otherwise happy and healthy young people to hate themselves.

First, your claim that gays are more likely to sexually abuse children than heterosexuals is not only incorrect, it creates fear and hatred of gay people. The notions that homosexuality is caused by childhood sexual abuse, or that gays are more likely to molest children, have been rejected by every leading medical, mental health and child welfare organization in the country. Study after peer-reviewed study backs the scientific consensus that heterosexual men pose a greater risk to children than homosexual males.4

Recently, the New Jersey Supreme Court examined the evidence and came to the same conclusion when it ruled that the Boy Scouts could not exclude gays. "The belief that a gay scoutmaster poses a risk to young boys because of his orientation is patently false," the Court wrote.5

Second, your claim that homosexuality is a tragic pathology and that gays and lesbians can and should be "cured" by "reparative therapy" is not only inaccurate but also promotes the idea that there is something wrong with being gay.6

The idea that homosexuality is an illness has been repudiated by the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Association of School Administrators, the American Counseling Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, the American School Health Association, the National Association of School Psychologists, and the National Association of Social Workers.7

The above groups were so concerned by the notion of "reparative therapy" that they recently created and sent a booklet to all 14,700 public school superintendents in the country, reiterating strongly that there is "no support among health and mental health professional organizations" for the idea that being gay is a mental illness, abnormal, or in any way something that must be cured through therapy.8

Nowhere are the consequences of anti-gay feelings more apparent than in the high number of suicides among gay youth. Studies have found that gay youth are three to seven times more likely to attempt suicide than heterosexual children.9

While suicide is the ultimate consequence of homophobia, studies find that gay youth - and youth who are perceived to be gay - are more likely to get beat up, feel isolated, and have trouble in school. In Massachusetts, a state known for its tolerance of gays, a study done for its former Republican Governor found that 97 percent of public high school students reported hearing homophobic remarks regularly from their peers, and 53 percent reported hearing them from school staff.10 Gay teens are four times more likely than heterosexuals to be threatened with a weapon at school.11

Given the environment of fear and violence created by homophobia, its little wonder that over a decade ago, President Reagans Department of Justice concluded that gays are "probably the most frequent victims" of hate crimes.12

And its not just gay teens who suffer. Children of gays and lesbians suffer from the stigmatization of their parents as unfit and immoral. Yet study after study has concluded that same sex parents are as capable as straight parents of providing everything a child needs for his or her psychological development.13

It doesnt have to be this way. Embraced by their family and by the larger society, gay youth - and the children of lesbians and gays - are as happy and healthy as other young people.

We encourage you to follow the example of the Rev. Jerry Falwell, who recently told a gathering of gays and lesbians that "I have been strident in my language... We acknowledge that words can lead to actions." The Reverend said he would critically examine his statements to avoid any "statements that can be construed as sanctioning hate or antagonism against homosexuals"14 and pledged to no longer refer to homosexuals as deviant.15

Dr. Laura, we are not saying that you should be censored. Nor are we implying that you don't have the right to express yourself. We are simply saying this: young people who are otherwise happy and healthy are being taught to hate themselves simply because they are gay.

As the most powerful radio show host in America, you understand the effects of language on children. It is within your power to use your wit and intelligence to help kids by speaking out against homophobia and anti-gay violence.

11. Great new piece COUNTERS the doctor...
Dr. Strangelove: The notorious Laura Schlessinger

By Xanadu Xero

Of course I had to see Dr. Lauras naked pictures the micro-trice they hit the Net.

I tore over to my friend Master Geek Zacks sty, I mean apartment. Zacks appetite for poor taste exceeds mine, a fair feat. I was still recovering from our last playdate, a mind-meld over an Icelandic website starring elderly nuns, a crucifix, vegetables and farm fauna.

I remember kicking through take-out remains as I surged to Zacks computer. Some porn was already on there, its caliber matching his housekeeping skills. An aging cheerleader type was aerating the pink on a white shag carpet by an unmade bed.

Ugh, I said. Youve got problems, dude. Wheres Dr. Laura?

That is Dr. Laura.

Zack clicked through the whole, um, spread, guffawing along the way. I was, truly, nonplussed. I had expected a midnight cable kind of thing chiaroscuro silhouettes by gauzy curtains, come-hither smiles, legs coyly draped.

Instead, I saw Hoochie Mama in gruesome prison yard light, flaming the goods. If she wasnt loaded, I run Baptist bake sales.

12. "Audio child abuse, pure and simple.."
Dr. Laura (1-4 p.m., KEX 1190) -- Audio child abuse, pure and simple. The lost lambs call in, begging for banal directions from Schlessinger, a woman who clearly despises the very people who keep her on the air. Doggone if we don't know the feeling--By Steve Duin, columnist, The Oregonian

Can't be said much better than that.

I had the, uh, pleasure of meeting Dr. Laura once, & she is what my late grandmother would call "a b*tch on wheels." Sorry if that term was banned by some DUers--it describes that evil, hypocritical harpy to a T.

I don't see how any rational, thinking person can take her seriously, knowing what a huge hypocrite she is.

But alas, we should take her seriously because she's DANGEROUS.

14. Giving advice over the radio is legal, engaging in therapy ...
is not,per most states. My understanding is that she is a licensed marriage, family, child counselor, or family therapist, through the state of California. Does she sometimes forget the rules? Does she sometime work on life skills (her version) with people? Is there a licensing violation? Hmmmm....

And ... did she stay home with her kids, earning no income, from the time that they were born, until the time that they wer 18 or older? Hmmm...

I agree that her statements about gays are unconscionable, as well as her statements about feminism and equal opportunity. I accidently tuned in the other day. I could only take a few seconds. She was ranting how the feminist belief about balance in one's life was bullsh**

Amazing that vulnerable people entrust their future to her ... and it seems like they do.

17. Wow...and to think she actually went to college
to learn how to say the things she does on the her, everybody else is "stupid," "lazy" or a "whore." What deep thought that must involve her.

And how therapeutic it is for someone to be called a whore!

Once again we have a Repuke playing on the basest of emotions. She appeals to the older set who think that they've had a tough life ("Well, I grew up in the school of hard knocks"), and that liberals have it so easy and get away with shit.

18. Wonder what she would say to this caller...
Hello Dr. Laura, love your show.

My son, let's call him Deryk S., dropped out of college in his freshman year to open a hookah bar. He says that it's "one of the easiest ways to pick up chicks-with a hookah".

I told him that I prefer he stay in school, but that if he must, a better way to pick up chicks is to become a powerful person in talk radio and then seduce your married interns.

Tell them (lie if necessary) they are beautiful now but won't be forever, use their vanity to get them to pose in the nude for your later enjoyment and possible blackmail.

I'm concerned about the quality of the young women my son will be seducing. What should I do, Dr. Laura?
