Frist to chair GOP platform committee
Frist to chair GOP platform committee

By NANCY ZUCKERBROD, Associated Press
Last Updated: July 12, 2004, 02:25:00 PM PDT

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist will chair the Republican committee that writes the party's platform.

A Republican source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Monday the committee will meet in the coming weeks to draft the document, which sets the party's principles heading into the November election. Delegates to the Republican National Convention in New York will be asked to approve the platform.

Over the years, there has been a tug of war between conservative and moderate Republicans over social policies outlined in the platform.

Frist, who was a Tennessee surgeon before joining the Senate in 1994, was a member of the platform-writing committee four years ago. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson, who was then governor of Wisconsin, was the previous chairman.

1. What the hell do the repukes need
a platform committee for? Their platform can be summed up as follows:
Screw and/or kill everyone except rich white guys.

6. My fantasy for Frist
includes his being chained in an alley and slowly devoured by hungry feral cats.

His platform? Fatten the rich, screw the poor, exempt the rich and the corporate from all taxes and pass the cost on to people whose wages are going down every year.

I want them gone, out of power, and stripped of all wealth, and brought up on bribery charges for their quid pro quos with industry, especially the pharmaceutical companies via the poison pill bill.

Thompson would be a better chairmen. He did wonders with the welfare system here in Wisconsin, and the schools were also good under him. I don't see how he can stand working with Bush though.
