Bush Cites Libya Disarmament as Evidence of Terrorist-Attack Prevention

July 12 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush said his administration is resolved to fight terrorists to avoid future attacks, citing Libya's agreement to stop building weapons of mass destruction as evidence of progress. <snip>

<snip>The Kerry campaign said in a statement that Bush's effort to portray Libya's abandonment of weapons ``as a consequence of the Iraq war is on par with its repeated exaggerations of links between Iraq and al-Qaeda.'' <snip>

Bush is ``changing the story on Iraq and he's misrepresenting Libya,'' said Flynt Leverett, a foreign affairs analyst at the Brookings Institution, and former National Security Council director of Middle East Affairs in 2002-2003. ``The rationale he offered before the war was that Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction and is linked to al-Qeada. They don't work.''

``Now he's trying to link it to the Libyans, when that was in fact a result of long, diplomatic negotiations,'' Leverett said in a telephone interview from Paris. <snip>

2. Not to mention, Libya's oil and lifting the embargo...
Libya has oil to sell, and any petroleum company with so much as a filling station on US soil, can't touch it (due to the embargo).

3. Before Iraq War the BP folks said a deal was about done - so I
don't see what the hell the media is trying to sell as the Bush contribution to Libya disarming.

The exploration rights that have been decided on and the exporting rules and amounts and the new investment agreements are withheld from us by our media so as to allow Bush to sell the idea that Iraq made Libya see the light!

Oh God - I do like my "not controlled by the right wing GOP" Media - they just act that way.

:-)
