Sharpton bashes Bush on Southern California campaign st...
LOS ANGELES (AP)

Civil rights activist and Democratic presidential hopeful Rev. Al Sharpton Sunday denounced President Bush for invading Iraq without international support and mocked him for failing to find Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden.

At a campaign stop at the First African Methodist Episcopal Church, Sharpton also criticized Bush's policies in Africa and warned against sending American troops to war-torn Liberia without the support of the rest of Africa and the world community. ---

"Bush said after Sept. 11 we've got to go and get bin Laden. Yet he can't find bin Laden. He can't find bin Laden, he can't find the weapons. Now we've got to take pride that Saddam Hussein is still alive; we can't find him.

"I promise you if I'm elected, President Bush will not be in charge of the missing persons bureau," Sharpton shouted to cheers, laughter and applause. ---

1. Good quote:
"I promise you if I'm elected, President Bush will not be in charge of the missing persons bureau," Sharpton shouted to cheers, laughter and applause.

2. Who cares
what Sharpton says? He is nothing but a clown in my opinion. Dosn't anybody remember Tawanna Bradly?

3. The name is Tawana Brawley!
And Sharpton's actions in the Brawley case, as despicable and self-serving as they were, did not lead to the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan.

On moral grounds alone, Sharpton is head and shoulders above Bush, and above those Democratic presidential candidates that voted for the invasion of Iraq.

4. So you are saying
And Sharpton's actions in the Brawley case, as despicable and self-serving as they were, did not lead to the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan

That it is ok to get a girl to lie and try to implicate police officers on made up rape charges?

5. It was Brawley that lied
Sharpton did not put her up to it. His failure was that even after that it became clear that Tawana's story was bullshit, and she told it because she feared her stepfather, that Sharpton continued to exploit the issue.

The law served justice well in this case and Sharpton lost the lawsuit, unlike our actions in Iraq which were totally outside the realm of the law, and for which there is no redress.

Like I said, no one died as the result of Sharpton's actions, unlike the actions of those that voted for the Iraq war.

Your outrage is misplaced and disproportionate, if it is real outrage and not an effort to score points.

7. Then just say so
instead of bringing up the Brawley case, which leads to an inevitable comparison between Sharpton's shameful role in it with the even more shameful role, and the bloody consequences, of the vote cast by some of the presidential candidates in favor of the Iraq war vote.

12. why? why is it necessary for people to not forget T. Brawley?
isn't it ok to forget *'s DUI ? Cheney's DUIs? *'s military record? What's the scoop? what earthly use is it to remember mistakes of a decent guy? He is hardly an idiot he has more brains in his pinky than the chimp in charge has in his whole family. Please try to say positive things about your candidate and not try to tear other's down. That is of course if your Candidate is a D.

15. AL has addressed the Brawley episode
and addressed it quite well. He hasn't ducked it and isn't assamed of it. The fact that some people choose to continue to bring that whole business up, time and again, is just mud slinging at this point. And not very creative MS, either.

13. this is where COUCHING Began
it intices a person to say something ANYTHING so that you can then use them as a source. When the truth is revealed that they lied, you can say well this is what I was told. Simplistic yet lethal and in my opinion used all too often these days....

or I wouldn't have posted about it.

In the future, keep your rudeness to yourself, and don't respond to my posts with: "Who cares?"

14. Re:Sharpton
I despised Al Sharpton with a passion back in the day when Dutchess County NY was in the headlines. I deplored his tactics of getting media coverage and thought he was an opportunist.

But I have come to respect Mr. Sharpton as he seems to have morphed into a respectable politician with a consistent theme and message.

He has candidly criticized this administration which is something much of America has been hesitant to do.

17. Sharpton won't win the nomination, but I hope
that whomever the candidate is puts Sharpton to work giving one on one advise on how to handle the press. He really knows how to handle those idiots.

20. Sharpton proved himself way before this race
I never cared much about Rev. Sharpton, until I had the chance to work for a client in NYC a few years ago.

While the NYPD (the pre-911 version) had officers sexually abusing prisoners and shooting unarmed minorities, Rev. Sharpton was on the case, publicly fighting to keep those cases from being swept under the rug. He helped keep those issues in the public eye until justice was served.

Rev. Sharpton also fought along with others in terms of getting the Navy to lay off bombing Vieques.

On those issues Rev. Sharpton has earned my respect. He continues to earn it every day he keeps pResident Bush in the crosshairs and lets him have it.
