"Fahrenheit" Burns Up Box Office

"Michael Moore's assault on President Bush (news - web sites) was even hotter than anticipated, earning a searing $21.8 million to become the first documentary in Hollywood history to top the box-office charts, according to preliminary estimages.

In just three days, from Friday to Sunday, Fahrenheit 9/11 also eclipsed Moore's Bowling for Columbine as the highest grossing documentary of all time.

By now the film's backstory is legend. Fahrenheit 9/11 was dumped by Disney for political reasons. The right-wing Website MoveAmericaForward.org launched a letter-writing campaign trying to keep the film out of theaters. Another conservative group, Citizens United, filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission, asking it to investigate whether the movie's TV ads featuring a bumbling Bush violate federal laws. Then the MPAA refused to lower the film's rating from an R, effectively limiting the number of people who could see it.

But Moore and producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein weren't deterred. After the film won the Palm d'Or at Cannes, the Weinsteins bought the rights from Disney and collaborated with Lions Gate (news - web sites) Films and IFC Entertainment to bring the film to what turns out to be the eager masses."

2. Shameless kick
This is big - he's topped the whole box-office this weekend.

This has got to be changing hearts and minds.

I nominate Michael Moore for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to rid the nation and the world of an evil administration hell-bent on world domination.

4. I saw "F911" last Friday...
Highly recommend it to any thinking American! (yeah, yeah, I know...we still need a majority to win)

But really, I found it had 3 types of information:
1. That which I already knew, thanks to sites like DU, Bartcop, Buzzflash, MoveOn, and others...
2. That which I suspected but needed a vehicle like this film to assimilate. Much truth suppressed or distorted by the CorporateMedia is presented with brevity and clarity. I was amazed at how rotten this administration really is and how seemingly unrelated events are interconnected. It has its tentacles in EVERYTHING.
3. Facts I was not aware of, but now have the beginnings of "new knowledge."

Micheal Moore's ability to assimilate much into a intelligible, coherent presentation is remarkable.

I plan to see it again!

Good work, Mr. Moore!!! :toast:
