Limits on Trips to Cuba Cause Split in Florida
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/06/24/national/24CUBA.final.html?th

"Under the changes, United States residents will be allowed to visit relatives once every three years instead of once a year. They will be able to spend $50 a day, down from $167, plus $50 a day for transportation, if needed. Visitors will need a special license that will let them visit immediate family members only, for up to 14 days at a time."

How is this enforcable? Is there a US government agent who follows you around in Cuba to see where you go, who you visit and how much money you spend? I don't get it.

Gotta love the irony of the lauded "FreedomTM" in His Chimperial Highnesses America.

First of all -- the government tells you that you are not smart enough to decide if Cuba is good or bad on your own, so they decide for you by creating these laws. You ARE smart enough to know to "choose" to risk health problems by using addicitive substances, like cigarettes, and you have the brains to decide to "choose" to eat fatty processed foods linked to health problems -- but you are NOT SMART ENOUGH to know if Cuba is good or bad for you. Leave that to the grownups now running our government.

Then they put into force limits on travel and visits that rival those of Communist East Germany and North Korea.

As to how this is enforced -- travellers will have to account for all expenditures with receipts. The amount of cash one carries into the country will be closely monitored. As to how visits to family only will be enforced will be probably proof that one travelled and spent money ONLY in the vicinity of their domicile -- not anywhere else.

Thank heavens we live in 'Murka and not some restrictive Commie country like Cuba, NK or East Germany, huh? Oh, the oxygen rush of deep breaths of FreedomTM!
