White House Lawyer Questioned in CIA Leak

http://customwire.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/CIA_LEAK?SITE=APWEB&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House's top lawyer was questioned by a federal grand jury Friday in the criminal investigation of who in the Bush administration leaked the name of a covert CIA operative last year.

White House counsel Alberto Gonzales underwent questioning at the federal courthouse. He was the latest in a string of administration officials to be asked about the unauthorized disclosure of the name of CIA operative Valerie Plame, wife of former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, to the news media.

"The president directed the White House to cooperate fully, and Judge Gonzales was just doing his part to cooperate," said White House press secretary Scott McClellan, who also has gone before the grand jury.

There is a delicious irony in this...

thanks to Ken Starr's trashing of the right of confidentiality between the White House lawyers and the President, Mr. Gonzales had to testify. Proof of the expression "You reap what you sow".

3. Well, if we're going to follow Ken Starr's lead...
Then we must also look into whether any of the people who leaked Plame's name have ever had extra-marital sex at any point in their lives, because after all - the American people have the right to know the Truth!

5. who will stand up for us?

"The president directed the White House to cooperate fully, and Judge Gonzales was just doing his part to cooperate," said White House press secretary Scott McClellan, who also has gone before the grand jury."

So, they must have a plan already in process to smear this serious judicial process. I am convinced. They do have a plan that will smear the entire thing.

They do believe, I am convinced, that they can spin themselves and all of their criminal activities, into something "good" and "holy"

It will be so good and holy, because they will say it is.

They, the Bush family and especially the George now messing up our country at an unbelieveable pace, are evil , without any sense of patriotismm or love of country, or love of history or anything near those esoteric things that we the little people have always believed in. They are that way, because the entire family, in their obvious lack of anything to be admired for, compensate for their trashiness by lies and bullying.

Well, Mr. Bush , you little prick, we have awakened thanks to you, you little prick of a coward who has consistently run away from any decision making process and are in over your head as the coup de president of the US. You , Mr. Bush , are a stupid failure, and you know it as you ever the more, attempt to spin every lie you have told us--we the American people have been lied to by you--the stupid son of a stupid father--both will go down as failed , one term, presidents.

This one, the son, is particularly, stupid . So stupid that even a child can recognize he is smarter than his own president.

Too bad that almost a thousand of our young have been killed due to his AWOL, stupid ego driven, insane and stupid self. Too bad--this prick just shrugs and refuses to recognize anything of his complicity in this horrendous undertaking

He thought it would be like playing the governor of Texas, executing by decree, the many people on death row, while ignoring his responsibility to investigate into their case.

Nope--he loved killing them all, no matter if they had a case or not

That is how lazy and how stupid and how stupid he really is.

and we are to believe his slovenely, slutty and sullen looking daughters are to campaign and give speeches for his re-election? They look to be as stupid as their mother and their father and they chose to dress like slovenly slugs and think they are indeed, entitled over us all.

Yahoo--ain't they both so slovenly and slutty looking?

And they are going to give speeches for their clown of a little prick father? And we are supposed to be enthralled by this cheap looking orators, or oratoresses? LOL

Rise up ye people who are the "us"

Rise up against these pricks who would have us all buried beneath their lofty trendy and expensive aspirations

Rise up against the shallow bastards that are ruling us and running this country

Go to the barn--find the pitchfork and the shovel--take it up and march--

We should not have to suffer this from these little men.

We should not have to suffer it--and we should not have to suffer the fact that NO ONE on the other side of the aisle, is supporting us

and that US is we--we the people.

there is NO ONE standing up for us right now.

17. Although, when you consider who is under fire, "can be" is
probably near the money. "Won't be" is even more accurate.

The mainstream press doesn't even bother to pretend anymore.

8. want to hear from lawyers! --
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 05:42 PM by sniggles
With the attorney-client privilege eroded so severely during Clinton's imbroglio with the Whitewater grand jury, what obligation was Gonzales under as far as disclosing what he knew? Everything Bush told him, as long as it wasn't related to his official duties as president?

9. I am sure the questioning would be strictly related to what Gonzales...
knew or was told about the Plame leak, including any conversations bush and anyone else would have had with him on this issue.

it is becoming ludicrous. I think there might be something else big coming out too, given the increased level of bush apologists out and about in the media and elsewhere.

12. Was there a Bush subpoena?

I ask because that, it seems, would have been the only rational trigger for the president then spilling his guts to Gonzales, thinking (perhaps wrongly) that Gonzales was the appropriate lawyer for such a confidence. Why else would Bush have taken the step to secure private counsel?

I'd love to know what Bush told him.

Also, maybe Bush has already been questioned, but the WH isn't saying. After all, Cheney has been.

14. shamelessly egotistical kick

.. but I really want to flesh this one out tonight. Think of it: the president's LAWYER was summoned to the Plame grand jury.

Is this the endgame, or do they request the presence of the big guy(s) next week for a, a-hem, "visit"?

16. Given that there were two reporters subpoenaed and their outlets...
are fighting the subpoenas and that subpoenas are only supposed to be served on reporters if there was NO other way to get the information needed, will the grand jury hold off with any indictments until after the battle has been fought in the courts re the subpoenas?

Rumor has it that the indictments are coming soon, I hope the rumors are correct.

18. I asked Wayne Madsen that via email
and he said Fitzgerald was probably thinking they might testify without fighting the subpoenas. He said he doubted Fitzgerald would get into a court battle over it, so I'm guessing this won't delay any indictments.

I have this unsettling feeling that something is boiling under the surface. The right-wingers were all out in force this week with their talking points all lined up and coordinated. I've had this feeling all week that another shoe was about to drop. GAWD, I hope I'm right.

It does seem that way. The grand jury probably wants to hear if he corroborates or contradicts Bush or Cheney's testimony.

27. I think this must be part of Josh Marshall's story. When I read his post
about the big story that was going to be told I read between the
lines and thought that what he didn't mention was Plame. He does tend to write cryptically.

28. "Bush has indicated that he, too, expects to be questioned." !!!!!!!!!!!!
From the article:

Vice President Dick Cheney was recently questioned by investigators, and President Bush has indicated that he, too, expects to be questioned. Bush has consulted with a private attorney about the case, since the White House counsel can represent him only on official matters.

Disclosure of an undercover officer’s identity can be a federal crime.

IAAL, and lemme tell you, when you want to nail Mr. Big, you start by questioning his underlings and working your way up. Make them commit to their stories, then move up the chain. It looks like they questioned Cheney before Bush -- since Cheney has already been questioned, obviously.

So it looks like Fitzgerald is working toward building a case against Bush.

Pretty sweet, eh?
