Pakistan says U.S. kills two of its soldiers
A lot of this kind of incident lately: Iraqi police, Afghan soldiers, Pakistani soldiers, civilians of course. Is there anyone NOT being killed accidentally by the U.S. military?

PESHAWAR, Pakistan -- Pakistan said U.S. forces killed two of its soldiers near the Afghan border on Monday, and the U.S. military said it was investigating what it called an unfortunate and unintended clash.

The Pakistani military's public relations department said a strong protest had been lodged with U.S. authorities about the incident in which one Pakistani soldier was also wounded.

It said in a statement U.S. forces fired on the Pakistani patrol at a border post in the tribal Waziristan region, some 260 km (160 miles) southwest of the capital Islamabad.

A senior Pakistani official told Reuters the U.S. forces mistook the Pakistani patrol for al Qaeda or Taliban fighters. "It was due to some misunderstanding," said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

3. Interesting follow-up article in WP
U.S. Forces Kill 2 Pakistani Border Guards

SNIP

Militants appear able still to slip back and forth across the long and ill-defined border. Paktika province, where yesterday's incident occurred, is a parched and thinly populated area with scores of hidden trails through barren mountains. Not only does the rugged terrain favor the militants, but Pakistani forces have appeared unwilling or unable to control the fighters who have sought refuge in Pakistan's largely lawless tribal areas.

Since some weeks, there are some reports of border clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, even including shelling, that barely made it into western media.
