Nine casualties among the U.S-led coalition troops in Iraq (3 US soldiers)
BAGHDAD, June 8 (PL)—At least nine of the U.S-led invading coalition’s troops have died in resistance actions during the last few hours in Iraq, with only 22 days remaining before a transition of power to an Iraqi government.

In a press release, the U.S. Central Command for the occupation forces confirmed that two of its soldiers died in car-bomb attacks – one in the city of Baquba, northeast of Baghdad, and the other in the northern city of Mosul. A third soldier, a member of the 1st Expeditionary Force, died yesterday in the province of Al Anbar, when he was shot down by opponents.

The same press release confirms that three Slovaks, two Poles and a Latvian – all coalition soldiers – died while they were removing mines from a field in Al Suayra, south of Baghdad.

In another development, Salem al Hay Isa, mayor of the northern city of Mosul, escaped unhurt from a car-bomb attack, according to Radio Baghdad. This action was in keeping with the insurgency’s strategy of attacking political figures imposed and supervised by the United States.
