Two fifth-graders found after a day lost in cave (Good news is nice :-)

TULELAKE, Calif. (AP) - Two fifth-graders were found alive in an ancient lava cave late Friday, more than 24 hours after getting separated from classmates on a field trip to Lava Beds National Monument.

Timothy Ellenwood and Kyra Leigh Young, both 11, had last been seen about 4 p.m. Thursday before becoming separated from classmates, sheriff's officials said. The children had flashlights and were dressed warmly.

The children, from Nevada City, Calif., had last been seen in Catacombs Cave, which reaches some 7,000 feet in one direction, said sheriff's spokeswoman Susan Gravenkamp.
