Rafah buries its dead
...But while the end of the siege pointed to a winding down of Israel's controversial Operation Rainbow, troops made clear that they were still in town by unleashing a volley of machine-gun fire as the cortege approached a tank guarding an army bulldozer in the Brazil neighbourhood.

Many of the mourners, including pall-bearers, hurriedly dived for cover as they turned right after the Al-Awda mosque before rerouting their procession under the guidance of Palestinian security services.
