i'm posting on a mdna thread...but i'm from MI where she & her bro went to school and i've always had a love/hate thing with the girl.

anyone else remember when she had this little 'issue' with her producers and managers back when her album about the war came out? i don't really follow 'pop culture' issues, but iirc i read that she wanted to be more anti-war in her lyrics, etc., but was told to keep quiet. thus, a madonna in israel espousing rights for the pltns would probably not be welcome...by some.

Madonna has dabbled in a few religions in her life. She was born and raised a Catholic (her real name is "Madonna"). A few years ago, she decided to go Hindu, around the time she decided to ditch the Detroit accent for a poor English accent. Funny thing, though, is that during a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, she was all Hindu-ed up, and she performed a techno-infused chant to Shiva. Unfortunately, the design she had on her forehead was one of devotion to Vishnu.... (Obviously not too observant to realize which god she was praying to!)
After it became obvious she didn't know shit about Hinduism, she decided to join the Kabbalah, which is basically New Age spirituality with the added pretense of being part of an established religion (I know Kabbalah is millenia old, I'm referring to its current appeal...).
Maybe she is sincere in her belief in the Kabbalah, but if her recent history has proven anything, it's that fashion always trumps religion.

If this had happened to any other performer in the world, I'd take it seriously. But since time and Britney Spears have robbed Madonna of her reason for being, she's taken to pulling off such publicity stunts as advertising for a sperm donor; putting her new music online and publicly threatening to sue the culprits; and self-censoring her anti-war video so she could appear to be supporting Bush AND the troops. Now she's officially made it to the bottom--her word now carries as much weight as Georgie's does.
