Journalists worried about financial pressures on news quality
Journalists worried about financial pressures on news quality

By WILL LESTER, Associated Press

Last Updated: May 23, 2004, 01:08:00 PM PDT

WASHINGTON (AP) - Journalists are growing more concerned that bottom-line financial pressures are "seriously hurting" the quality of news coverage, according to a survey taken at a time when news organizations face increased competition for readers and viewers.

A majority of national and local journalists say they think financial pressures are hurting coverage, said the survey released Sunday by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.

snip...
The number of national journalists who think bottom-line financial pressures are hurting coverage was 66 percent this year, compared with about 40 percent in a Pew survey from 1995

snip...
National journalists were more likely than a decade ago to say there are too many factual errors in coverage, while local reporters were less inclined to say that was a problem.

snip...
More than half of national journalists say the press has not been critical enough of President Bush. Local journalists were about evenly split between thinking the press is not critical enough or is fair in its treatment of the president.

3. Outrageous proof
Some blond mediawhore on Faux (I was flipping channels) was on the phone with Crown Prince Abdullah and complaining that he and other Arab nations have not come out and called Zarquawi (sp?) a terrorist or whatever.

The Prince says the U.S. media is lazy, because he and others have said it many times.

She asks "in the national media"? What a bimbo, like there's only one "national media". He says it was in his national media and picked up by international media, but not in the U.S., that the U.S. reports when they do something wrong but not when they do something right.

She friggen disagrees! And says they report both sides. Okay I flipped the channel so I don't know his response. He's nothing but slime but still, if he said it, and it wasn't picked up here but was picked up elsewhere, why wouldn't she wonder about that? Instead she freakin argues with him.

The media is shameless, led by Faux.

4. Reminds me of the concrete blonde that got miffed
that Hussein, in one of his recorded speeches at the start of the war, was shown with a picture of an eagle next to the Iraqi flag. I'll never forget my shame and embarrassment when she haughtily huffed to the middle eastern panelist "I find that ironic. Eagles are usually associated with the United States of America". The panelist grimaced and stated with great eloquence and dignity "Many countries have eagles." She was visibly embarrassed that she had just made an ass of herself in the "national media". This happened over a year ago, but the quotes are burned into my brain. Everything that is wrong with the neo-con philophy in one sentence. I wish I could say it was Faux, but I'll say it was probably CNN or MSNBC, which is why it shocked me even more.
