( Wash ) State Bush campaign betting on grass roots

State Bush campaign betting on grass roots

By David Postman
Seattle Times chief political reporter

If you were a George Bush supporter four years ago but didn't show up to vote on Election Day, Karl Rove has your name on a list.
The president's top political counselor counts 119,000 Bush supporters in King County who failed to vote in 2000, a number that would have been almost enough to overcome Al Gore's statewide margin of victory in Washington state.

"There are a lot of friends, a lot of supporters, a lot of our philosophical compatriots who don't register, who don't get out to vote," Rove told King County Republicans in a speech earlier this year.

He doesn't want it to happen again. From his office in the White House, Rove has spurred the Bush re-election campaign, the Republican National Committee and state parties to develop the largest and most tightly controlled voter-outreach effort in the history of professionally run presidential campaigns.

1. Karl, quit your job, join the military and fight in Iraq...
do that and I might entertain the thought of ...never mind...I lied, Bush and you can fuck off.

they got my name but I got a nice letter with an even nicer photo of Shrub and Pickles. It was on the wrong type of paper to be of any real use. I prefer "strong, soft and thoroughly absorbent".

5. why wasn't rove involved in post-invasion planning for Iraq where he could
have done some good for our country, instead of working to destroy the last shreds of Democracy here?

6. Everyone take a breath...WA will go to Kerry. No worries.
I live in Seattle. We have plenty of military bases and conservative strongholds in our state. However, I can assure you that Kerry will win WA. Even the most conservative elements of our state can not overcome Bush* shortfalls. There is no way in hell that Bush* will take WA. Myself, and other moderates in our state, will assure President Kerry's succes here.

Does anyone who lives in WA disagree? I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who does.

7. I tend to agree with you..but we were cheated in 2000
What may be the surprise of the new century is this:
Kerry may win by the largest landslide ever. How?:
this country is in horrible shape.
Millions out of work.
deficit soaring.
forget the taxes arguement, it isn't worth arguing over.
millions more un or underinsured.
social security is in the ICU and may not recover
loss of tax revenue means cities and towns fired police and firefighters.
violent crime on the increase.
800 dead American troops who would be alive today but for BUSH.
over 22000 wounded Americans but for Bush.
tens of thousands of dead innocent Iraqis who would be alive but for
Bush.
Corporate (not the domestic diva) fraud: Enron, Tyco, Enron,Enron...
Bush ties to bin Laden, halliburton, Carlisle, PNAC.

I think Americans are tired of the different day, same old Bush.

They think they can win King County?

I don't even think Bush can win Clark County.

18. I'm from Clark CO
And we've got 3X the number of attendees at the county convention.

This county's going Democratic. It's got a high unemployment rate, a pretty good congressman (OK, better than that) Brian Baird, and we are chomping at the bit to see that sonofabitch in the White House relegated to the ash-heap of history.

21. I think Brian Baird is great
I'm across the creek in Multnomah County, I could see this coming. Clark County went

Bush/Cheney R  67219
Gore/Lieberman D  61767

in 2000, so it's not much of a stretch. :)

8. 4 years ago?
Oh, Karl, you poor delusional sweetie, you think they're still there.

Well, let's examine it, Karl. How many are military or National Guard families? Maybe you kept ten percent of them. How many are Arab American? How many lost jobs? How many died of diseases George wouldn't allow to be cured with stem cells? How many of polluted water or spoiled food or industrial accidents because of relaxed regulations?

Karl, Karl, Karl, that's so Republican of you, thinking you can destroy a nation and it will still be there for you, bright and shiny, tomorrow.

Nothing like a little arm-twisting (LITERALLY) from this criminal administration to "get out the vote."

Republicans can't hold their shit in that well, I am sure some of them messed themselves!

That seems kind of scary. You'd better vote or else...

13. Seriously...
There WILL be letters sent with ambiguous language about "encouraging" friends and neighbors to vote for Bush*.

These scumbags play dirty and they play to "win" at any human cost (except their own).

14. We bought our house from people I think are GOP..
We are outside of Tacoma, Washington. Ooh. I hope I hope that some right-wingers come to my door in hopes of getting us to vote for Bush.. thinking we're the previous owners. I'm certain I'll forget to mention that I'm a democrat.. and I'll be oh so happy to let them know why I'm voting for Kerry this time. Oh.. to see their pasty, pouty little republican faces... priceless.

15. Bring it on, numbnuts!
They're consiering l'etat du moi a battleground state????

They must be freakin' desparate!

This state has -even with the cooked books- a high unemployment rate, due to the disasterous trade deficits. Most trade to/from Asia goes through the Pacific NW. They're sending us Toyotas while we send them scrap metal and straw.

And they can get every repug in the state, and it won't matter.

We're going Democratic this time, Rove.

We're speakin' French, too!

And when we've won, we'll make sure you and your boys get a fair trial, and unlike what you did in Iraq, we'll respect your rights.

Because I will hand them election materials, a pile of paperwork on the evils of the Rat-publican party.

I'll convince 'em to vote for Kerry.

(heh heh I plan to do a little door-to-door campaigning myself)

24. DUer Andy Stephenson is running for Sec. of State in Washington
Evidently, the existing Sec. of State has bought a ton of Diebold's voting machines. Andy is running hard against him, as well as another Dem candidate in the primaries that doesn't "get it" about a voter verified paper ballot.

Andy Stephenson is DUer "God_Bush_&_Cheney". If you guys want your Dem votes to count, so that you CAN carry the state for Kerry, you might want to donate to Andy's campaign.

Otherwise, you just might be electing bush, whether you vote that way or not!

25. Democrats in Washington are energized
and republicans are fading. Of course, there are some serious crazies like everywhere but turnout for the democrats in Pierce County was 5 x normal-the precinct people said they had never seen anything like it-I believe the state chairman(who was for DEAN) said the same. Meanwhile, the turnout for repubs was low. Eastern Washington may be a different story as they tend republican but they don't have enough population to change the outcome. Also, my perception is that Nethercutt isn't making any serious inroads into Patty Murray's support.
