Bush Says Schwarzenegger Would Be 'Good Governor'
CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - President Bush said on Friday he believed that Arnold Schwarzenegger would make a good governor of California.

Bush, answering questions at his Texas ranch, repeated that the California recall election was something for the people of California to decide, but when asked what he thought about the actor as governor, Bush replied: "I think he'd be a good governor."

story

It seems like Bush is enthralled by just about anyone who can read.

32. He's not endorsing him.
Don't you see?

He HAS to be nice, AS is allegedly GOP, but they know he's not on their team!

This is good news.

3. Endorsing Arnold ...
is the best thing AWOL can do ... for the Democrats.

I think it reduces his credibility (if that is possible).

Cheers

So it's a natural.

7. Based On What?
All I've heard Arnold say is that he's running. I haven't heard him say one substantive thing about what he's going to do to make California any better.

22. "Pump up business in California"
. . . is another great initiative of the Ahnald. Sounds like sound public policy to me . . . reminds me that living in Cali right now is more bizarre than usual, and that's saying something.

8. Good for us
I hope Bush comes out loudly in favor of Ahnuld. That will make it just a little more obvious how hypocritical the GOP is when they start saying Dean or Kucinich or whoever our nominee is is not qualified for the job. You can't get less qualified than Ahnuld.

10. but what about Simon?
Isn't Simon running?

Does anybody think dubya learned the lesson and endorsed Arnold so that Simon can steal the election?

I know, I know, I'm paranoid.

16. Is simon the real threat?
I've been thinking exactly the same thing, that somehow they could slide Simon in there, and he'd pick up the conservative votes that Arnold couldn't get. Simon would be way worse than any candidate on the recall ballot in my opinion. I guess I am really paranoid, especially when it comes to Karl Rove's possible strategies. He's always thinking.

21. No, Simon is what will keep Arnold from winning

Simon will split off enough conservative voters (who don't like Arnold's position on social issues) to make it possible to defeat Arnold. This will work for the Dems only if there's one Dem candidate on the ballet, and everyone unites behind them.

Karl Rove has two choices to deal with this scenerio:

1) get a high profile Green to declare (Tim Robbins? Susan Sarandon?) to split the progressive vote, and

2) lean on Simon VERY heavily to withdraw, and not run.

Simon should probably stay out of small airplanes for the duration of the campaign.

38. I thought the Greens had bowed out
someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I read somewhere that the Greens had said they would not run a candidate if Arianna Huffington was on the ballot. Is this still their position?

subquestion: Does Arianna have enough pull in CA to split the progressive vote? I have seen several DUers say they will vote for her, but is she well-known enough to be a real factor here?

27. The tag line for the poster should read
"two more boobs for Arnold."

Hope all DUers will e-mail this thread to everyone they know in Calif. The corporate media will go to great lengths not to "reveal" this side of Arnold to the brainwashed masses.

40. Whoa,
Interested to know where you found that one. Quite amusing, maybe you could find a way to email it to Ahnuld as a suggestion for his campaign. Maybe it'll get him some votes from some Ann Coulter fans.

The hype is out of control now -- I don't see any way we can stop Schwarzenegger from becoming governer.

The silver lining of this cloud is that he can't become president

24. Actually, I don't think Arnold was Bush/Rove pick--it backfired
Wish I had my Time magazine of a week or so ago. There was a featured article in there. Arnie is not their crowd and they don't want him. They wanted a little overthrow of the CA government and one of their crime buddies in to start "arranging" things for the magic Bush sweep of CA in '04. They don't like this one bit.

whatever works. Arnie the groper met with Rove. True - they probably would prefer a PugBot but Arnie will do to show that Repugs don't need no stinking votes to win elections.
