U.S. Appeals for Troops to Guard U.N. Staff in Iraq (wtf?)
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=5196942

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States appealed to U.N. members on Wednesday to send troops to Iraq to protect U.N. personnel and pledged that any abuse of prisoners would stop. (note: would stop??? - Is it still going on????)

U.N. staff, should they return to Iraq, would have a separate unit to protect them within a U.S.-led multinational force.

"The ability of the United Nations to continue its vital role in assisting Iraqis to prepare for elections depends on its security," James Cunningham, the deputy U.S. ambassador, told the 15-nation U.N. Security Council.

"We urge the international community to participate in this important task," he said.

<snip>

The Bush administration hopes that Egypt, Pakistan and other Islamic nations will join the force to guard the United Nations, which so far has been reluctant to field a permanent staff in Iraq, citing security concerns.

1. The UN would be insane to go in while there is one US soldier left in Iraq

I mean NOONE will be safe under the "umbrella" of the US in Iraq.

The "superpower" has lost it's "power".

Who wants to be associated with them?

ESPECIALLY in Iraq!

frigadee . . .

3. UN did not want US protection, at least before car bombing there
since it made them look too dirty to the natives.

4. LOL! We're too incompetent -- please send Egypt or Pakistan to help us.
Dubya didn't need the rest of the world to go in and break it -- just to help put it back together again.
