BLIX BLASTS 'ILLEGAL' US WAR ON IRAQ
BLIX BLASTS 'ILLEGAL' US WAR ON IRAQ Aug 7 2003

By Mark Ellis, Foreign Editor

FORMER United Nations weapons inspector Hans Blix yesterday blasted the US-led war on Iraq as a violation of international law.

He said: "I do not see the action as compatible with the UN charter."

Speaking on Swedish radio, Blix questioned whether Saddam Hussein had posed an immediate threat to his neighbours and the US.

He said: "I found it peculiar that those who wanted to take military action could - with 100 per cent certainty - know that the weapons existed and turn out to have zero knowledge of where they were."

2. He's right...
Iraq posed absolutely no threat to us, none.

Once we get out of Iraq we should work on getting out of the UN.

Then we can start straightening up our own house, taking care of our own citizens...

3. Why would we want to get out of the UN?
The UN is not the problem. The bu$h administration is and that is what needs to be cleaned up.

6. It is my opinion...
that we should get out of the UN so we can concentrate on America. We have plenty of problems right here at home that need addressing. Having our troops spread all over the world (sanctioned by the UN or otherwise) is
#1 Costly
#2 Detrimental to the worlds opinion of us

Just my .02, YMMV...

I agree wholeheartedly that the Bu$h administration is a huge problem...

10. Maybe we should call in the UN
and get them to do some nation-building right here.

4. We need to reestablish our relationships at UN not run away.
Dean or Kerry (or Gore) will need to spend much effort going to the UN with "hat in hand" in order to restore lost credibility and heal wounds. The USA cannot afford the financial quagmire of Afganistan and Iraq to sink our domestic needs here at home.

I believe that our relationship with the UN can be a winning issue against Bush. Bush is toast at the UN. It will require a new American face in the form of a Democrat to reestablish much needed international cooperation around the world.

9. I don't think the U.N. will be an issue against Bush
here is why, his supportes have made it a point to lessen their credibility in the eyes of the U.S. people, along the same lines as what they have tried to do with the French. The reason will go like this: "Who cares about the U.N. or would even want to bring them in, they are useless. Inviting the U.N. in is cuddling up to Hussein and bin-Laden. They did not want to go to war with them, they are useless".

The argument will go something like that. It is also partof the PNAC vision to do this. A person going to the U.N. will be demonized as a terrorist sympathizer.

7. but, but. but......
My how things have changed since 9/11! Remember how we turned to the UN? We paid up our over-due dues lickety-split and everything!

Also, I note the insignifigance of the UN to some regarding the Kick-their-ass-steal-their-gas crowd, but with Liberia, well it seems the UN is suddenly a player again.

Isn't hypocrisy fun to point at and laugh about? ;-)

5. Why doesn't the American Media throw out questions like this?
Why don't the Dems. too?

I'm sure in basic journalism you're taught to think objectively and dig for all points of view on a topic, putting your personal views aside. We were taught this in Speech classes in high school and college. Why don't our Masters and PhDs media journalists know basic journalism?

Because they're undercover GOP/Gov. Whores.

14. More emphatic words from Blix
Just found this article:

Blix slams 'bastards' in Pentagon

OUTGOING chief UN weapons inspector Hans Blix has described certain members of the US administration as "bastards" who set out to undermine him during his three years at the helm, according to a British newspaper report.

"I have my detractors in Washington, "Blix said in an uncharacteristic outburst to The Guardian published today.

"There are bastards who spread things around, of course, who planted nasty things in the media. Not that I cared very much."

In his interview, Blix also accused Washington of regarding the United Nations as an "alien power" which it hoped would sink without trace.

Asked if he believed he had been the target of a deliberate smear campaign, Blix told the daily: "Yes, I probably was at a lower level".
