Bush-appointed judge faces challenge to keep her seat

While 20 incumbent Broward County judges held their jobs Friday with no opposition, one will have to fight to keep her seat in a nonpartisan race touched by controversy before it even started.

Circuit Judge Cheryl J. Aleman will be going head-to-head on the Aug. 31 ballot with criminal defense lawyer Robert Malove to retain the judgeship she was appointed to three years ago by Gov. Jeb Bush.

It has long been considered taboo in Broward County to challenge a sitting judge. But Broward County's Democratic Party chairman announced in August he was actively opposing her re-election bid, calling her a "right-wing nut."

I think America is finally waking up to the fact that our government has been hijacked by right wing neoconservatives who are intolerant of anyone who thinks differently than they do.
