Supreme Court to announce Colo. redistricting decision next week
The U.S. Supreme Court said today it will announce next week whether it will settle Colorado's redistricting fight or leave a congressional map favored by Democrats in place for the rest of the decade.

State Senate President John Andrews, R-Centennial, said he expects a favorable ruling Monday on a Republican challenge that says the Colorado Supreme Court erred when it threw out a GOP-drawn map. He called the ruling "a gross miscarriage of justice."

"We hope the U.S. Supreme Court will set it right," Andrews said.

The high court's decision will be too late for this year's elections in Colorado, which will be held under a map drawn by a Denver judge after lawmakers failed to come up with boundaries in time for the November 2002 election.

1. Let me guess: When Democrats do it, it's wrong. 5-4.

2. You know
Aquart...I left Illinois in 1975 for Colorado...it was beautiful, accepting, free-spirited, no sprawl, no congestion (even in Denver), the climate (politically) was friendly, etc, etc. I left there 2 years ago when Owens became the Gov and they started paving all of my old campgrounds up Poudre Canyon...people came in from the "hinterlands" with their bad manners, road rage, littering, and violence...the Californication of Colorado. My point being, of COURSE the Supremes will rule in favor of the usupers of that once great state. While there always has been a Conservative presence in CS, since Dobbs and his Focus on the Family (I have always wanted a "focus on your OWN damn family" bumpersticker) cult invaded CS, things have been slowly deteriorating. I agree, if the Dems had done this kind of backdoor shoddy sleazy reprehensible act, it would be deemed wrong, but, alas...

3. And there will be a vocal condemnation of "liberal activist judges"
Matter of fact, it wouldn't be surprising if the SCrOTUS sends the plan back to Colorado with instructions to implement the rePub-favorable map BEFORE Nov 04. Perhaps there'll be some language about "denying citizens their voting rights" and the "need to insure fair elections".

4. Democratic friends in the CO state legislature & senate have been fighting
the good fight. They have made heroic efforts to battle the republican majority's power grab. I know some of them are frustrated by the direction our beautiful state has taken since the Dick Cheney/George W. Bush coup of 2000.

If you live in and love Colorado, vote Democrat, or before we know it the Texas rightwing political creep (hi Tom) will have us hiking around oil derreks and kayaking past nuclear dump sites.

Start by electing Ken Salazar to the US Senate and keep going until Bill Owens moves back to Texas where he belongs!

(sorry Texas Dems... but you're welcome to move to Colorado!)
