Dean: I Have Best Chance to Oust Bush
Dean: I Have Best Chance to Oust Bush

WASHINGTON -- Howard Dean said Tuesday he has the best chance of beating President Bush because he appeals to supporters of former independent candidates John McCain, Ross Perot and Ralph Nader as well as to Democratic Party faithful.

Dean said he believes his candidacy will energize millions of young people and independents who have been turned off by standard electoral politics.

"We've got to bring new people into the electoral process," Dean said on NBC's "Today" show. "We're going to say that to the people of Ralph Nader, ... people who voted for John McCain and Ross Perot. ... and that's the beginning of the coalition that I think can change the occupancy of the White House.

3. Saw him on Larry King last night
He sure can hold his own. But he needs to lighten up a little, he's so stiff. I found myself staring at him instead of focusing on what he was saying, and had to bring myself back into it. Hope that they can get someone to work with him on that, because his message is great and he's completely upfront and forthright and when he smiles, he's quite mesmerizing.

4. Maybe That Explains Why Limbaugh & Hannity Are Attacking Dean So Viciously
They must perceive him as the top candidate....

8. What Are They Saying About Dean?
I don't know what Hannity or Limbaugh are saying about any of the candidates. Dean still isn't well known, but maybe they are being proactive in telling the Dean story before Dean himself does.

Dean's candor appeals to me. He said that if he's considered a Leftist, the Left must be in desperate shape.

but not having much success lately.

12. yeah, keeping a balanced budget is sooooo lefty
I'm sure they'll try to say that he's some sort of gun-grabber as well, even though that's completely false. I guess these windbags have never let the facts get in their way before, why would they stop now...

10. I don't know what Hannity is saying, but the Windbag talked about
him for an hour and a half yesterday.

He was trying desperately to discredit Dean, calling him "Nakita" (Kruschev) Dean (the Windbag always resorts to demeaning nicknames when he has nothing of substance to say).

Tune in today. He will probably do it again.

The right wingnuts are getting scared.

But they still have no idea what is in store for them.

11. Dean is the top candidate
When it gets floated around that Rove said Dean is the man they want to run against bet your bottom dollar that means that he is the man they least want to run against.

5. sounds like a plan to me
Appealing to independents, young people, and the Democratic base is a great start. There is so much to campaign on--I hope Dean speaks out against the secrecy, mendacity, and elitist clubbiness of the Bush administration, and brings the presidency "back to the people."

6. That's certainly what I'm seeing on the ground here in the Twin Cities
I'm only on the fringes of Dean activities around here - but it seems like Dean has awoken a sleeping giant and that all kinds of people who were never on the radar of the political professionals are now coming out of the woodwork.

The DLC is completely clueless as to what's actually going on in this country.

15. Not much smoke there
Even the Vermont Republicans say that Dean probably doesn't have anything to hide by sealing his gov records. It's probably just a precaution against the right-wing hacks manipulating the records into a smear. It wouldn't be the first time it happened.

Imagine if Clinton could have sealed all records relating to the Whitewater "scandal". It would have saved him trouble even though he did nothing wrong.

As far as scandals go for Dean, Time magazine notes that there is probably something scandalous relating to his bachelor party, so we'll be sure to hear about it as soon as Time's crack scandal investigative team returns from Vermont.

14. I thought I had just saw on News Night or whatever, 'Graham drops because
attacks on Bush, Orlando Sentinel'. It's the show where the guy reads the national morning headlines. May be I got the newspaper name wrong because I don't see the info on the web.

1. If true, we must accept the fact American's are good people but a little clue-less or are not being given the facts.

Solution:
A, Anyone with a brain can figure out if you send out you players 1 at a time onto the field they're going to be swamped. Dems. can't be such big spineless cowards. Sending out 1 at a time to test the waters of attacking Bush. They're going to be eatan alive by the GOP Whore Media. The Dems. need to stick together and all strike at once and keep pounding no matter what some short term polls say.

B. The Dems. have to put a Internet PC in every house in America. Truth, Justice and God are on our side! If everyone had viewed the DU just once a week I am 99.99% sure Junior would be impeached by the end of the month, let alone even being the Repuke nominee. (I don't know how to do this but someone's got to figure it out. Like free donuts and Internet at you local Dems. office. Or use the local library's Internet to show people the true news.)

C. I say go on the offensive against the American Whore Media. A Dem. candidate use fact examples of what stories are being publish overseas and what's not being published in the U.S. Attack the media for being bias and lying for the GOP. What do we have to lose?

17. I disagree
Too liberal. America doesn't want universal health care. I've seen the polls. Plus he is tied to Hillary's attempt to federalize health care in the mid '90s. Plus he advocated raising the retirement age to 70. Plus he made dumb statements on Saddam. Plus he has a hinky past on the vietnam war draft issue.

22. what polls are those?
I've never seen a poll that indicated anything but support for the idea of universal health care, unless you are polling insurance lobbiests or something.
