`Dangerous Situation' Developing in Najaf, Iraq, Bremer Says
April 26 (Bloomberg) -- A ``dangerous situation'' is developing in the south-central Iraqi city of Najaf, where insurgents are allegedly stockpiling weapons in schools and mosques, U.S. spokesman Dan Senor said, citing a statement by L. Paul Bremer, top administrator in Iraq.

The U.S.-led coalition ``won't tolerate'' that action, Senor, a spokesman for the U.S.-led Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq, read from Bremer's statement. Bremer called the standoff in Najaf, where anti-U.S. Shiite Muslim cleric Moqtada al-Sadr is hiding in a mosque, ``explosive.''

Bremer to hold a news conference late in the day...wonder if he's going to announce they are attacking Najaf.

13. I heard a report on RNC/NPR this morning that
large numbers of returning soldiers from Iraq are in strong support of the war. They think it's great and want to go back. They fully support President-for-Life Emperor Iddy Bush and his crusade to exterminate all Muslims, everywhere. Hey, they aren't "our boys" anymore...

7. Lets hope so!
With all of these polls that show Kerry slipping despite the bad news out of iraq and the scandoulous allegations surfacing in books, I really wonder about the mentality of people in this country. Frankly, I'm getting sick about it. Its almost to the point where I can't watch the news or read anything anymore because I get so disgusted and angry.

Either they aren't asking the right people their opinions or this country is doomed.

10. Can anybody say 'Waco'? I knew you could...
I'm hearing on NPR this morning the preparation of Murican public opinion for more horrors from Iraq by having even more conservative commentators than usual (they sure get lots of help from the Heritage Foundation) and 'news' stories about troops coming home who support the war and Iraqi insurgents misbehaving by 'breaking the ceasefire' in Fallujah where US troops just massacred hundreds of women and children.

Is NPR getting their budget cut again? They sure are towing the maladministration's line diligently.

Yesterday NPR had two conservative economists discussing the idea of American empire in glowing terms as bringing prosperity to the underdevoloped world just as the British did. One of them was a 'Henry Kissenger' fellow at I-forget-which school.

Perfect. A fellowship named after a war criminal who disdains democracy. And neither of them said the words 'white man's burden.'

This morning they had a Bush* apologist from an organization that is used to destabilize countries which don't embrace WTO and IMF corporateering called the Center for Democracy. The apologist said that 9/11 could never have been prevented and that permanent war and invading countries were the best way to spread freedom. Naturally, Kissinger is on their board along with prominent Republicans and CEOs of major defense contractors and mining companies.

Fucking NPR.

15. NPR also said there were about 550,000 marchers in DC Sunday.
They must be gettingeady for another fundraiser, to be pandering to the right wing like this.

I won't be giving this year, in fact, I might let them know I"m sending Kerry and the DNC their usual allotment.

14. updated link:
U.S. soldiers remain massed outside the city and say al-Sadr must be held to account after an Iraqi judge issued an arrest warrant for him because of allegations he was involved in the murder of a rival cleric last April. ``I will not speculate on next steps,'' said Senor at a briefing in Iraqi Baghdad.

U.S. Marines also surround the mostly Sunni Muslim city of Fallujah west of Baghdad, and continue to exchange fire there with what the U.S. says are foreign terrorists and members of Iraq's military elite during Saddam Hussein's regime. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, an alleged al-Qaeda fighter the U.S. says may be helping to stage terror attacks, may be hiding in the region, the U.S. has said.
