Kerry Spokesman Responds to Karen Hughes' Misleading Attacks Today on Kerry's Record
2 hours, 41 minutes ago

WASHINGTON, April 25 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Today John Kerry Spokesperson Phil Singer issued the following statement in response to Karen Hughes' comments on CNN's "Late Edition" with Wolf Blitzer:

"Karen Hughes confirmed her membership in the right-wing smear machine today with her misleading attacks on John Kerry's record.

"John Kerry's courage on the battlefield clearly has Karen Hughes and the Bush team nervous about the fact that neither George Bush nor Dick Cheney (news - web sites) ever served in Vietnam. And while Ms. Hughes has every right to be proud of her father, her father is not running for President. George W. Bush is, and we will stand toe to toe with him on our military service any day of the week. It is unforgivable to take cheap shots at heroes like John Kerry, a man who put himself in the line of fire without thinking twice about it. She's wrong, they're wrong and they know it.

3. She was a monster today
I only heard about 5 minutes or less, but it was more than enough. She very deftly turned any critique of shrub's military record into an attack on the Air National Guard. I am glad the Kerry campaign came right back on that one. But she really was very eloquent in her vicious attack on Kerry. There were many layers to it. I hate the fact that anyone saw it.

16. OK OK, Karen sux, but there is no reason to attack her womanhood and size.
Attacking her size and calling her a c**t and other names that men call women are demeaning to other women.
I find that to be reprehensible.
Attack her message, yes. But leave her size and her sex out of it.

I am a woman of size and I find this offensive.

Call me a c**t if you want!

61. No but you did call her:
FAT and HUGE. I agree with the poster who was offended by this. In addition, most average americans are the same size or larger than she? Also, using these adjectives to describe a woman is much more insulting in our culture than if we used them to insult a man. Men can be huge and be seen as leaders... they can also be fat. So, then, FAT becomes a very sexist insult. That's why the other poster was drawing the c**t allegory. There's not much difference there.

47. Let me just get in the middle of this..
Rush leaves himself open to attacks on his appearance because he makes statements such as "Feminism is really just a way for ugly women to have their voices heard in mainstream America", as well as statements criticing Chelsea Clinton's looks.

Once you start insulting the looks of others, I believe that makes you fair game for similar petty insults.

41. I'm all for PC and all that...
...BUT, that doesn't detract one bit from the fact that Karen Hughes is a very ugly woman. Her ugliness goes far beyond mere physical appearance, even though she is a poster child for Carlin's Law, which states that most of the women who are against abortion aren't particularly attractive sexually to begin with. But I digress.

The point is, ugly is an attitude, not just a physical characteristic. Karen Hughes is particularly ugly.

57. only unattractive REPUBLICAN women are left untouched...
... by the media's misogyny! I don't advocate calling Hughes fat (primarly because she's not), but I do marvel (and admire the fact) that a woman so average looking gets so much respect from the media. I wish all average and less than average women would get that much respect, Democrat and Republican. If she were a Democrat she would be like Janet Reno - what a disgrace the way Reno has been portrayed by late-night comedy etc. because she's not a supermodel. Reno WAS fighting the 'war against terror' before 9/11, but - no! - let's not focus on her work but on her looks. Same with Hughes - calling her fat, ugly, average, feminine - whatever - all of those labels simply detract from the FACTS of what she is doing to undermine families and workers everywhere (overtime pay? ergonomics standards?)... while using her book to spread her story of the great family-friendly job SHE is lucky enough to have with Bush.

The Act that is only for "terrorists?" But marchers are terrorists?

I do think that statement should be played back every time someone asks for approval of the Patriot Act.

Irma Grese

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/GERgrese.htm

Irma Grese was born on 7th October, 1923. At the age of nineteen she began work as a concentration camp guard at Auschwitz. Known as the "Belle of Auschwitz", "Angel of Death" and "Blond Angel of Hell" she was in charge of 18,000 female prisoners at the camp.

Later she moved to Belsen where she worked under Josef Kramer. She developed a reputation for sadism and a fascination with medical experiments on inmates. She was said to have had love affairs with Kramer and Josef Mengele, the camp physician.

For guilty for war crimes Grese was executed on 13 December, 1945.

13.  EVIL HAS NO GENDER Maria Mandel

http://www.auschwitz.dk/Women/Mandel.htm

Maria Mandel

The sadistic SS-Oberaufseherin Maria Mandel was born at Munzkirchen in Austria in January 1912 and joined the SS in 1938. From October 1938 to May 1939 she was Aufseherin at KZ Lichtenburg and then from May 1939 to October 1942 she was Aufseherin in KZ Ravensbrück. She was then transferred as an Oberaufseherin to KZ Auschwitz where she worked until November 30, 1944. She was moved on to KZ Mühldorf where she continued until May 1945

Her arrest came on August 10, 1945. She was reported to be highly intelligent and dedicated to her work. The prisoners however, referred to her as the beast as she was noted for her brutality and enjoyment in selecting women and children for the gas chambers. Soon she had become the feared chief-guard of Birkenau women's camp.

She also had a passion for classical music and encouraged the women's orchestra in Auschwitz. The women of the orchestra were kept busy playing at roll-calls, and they had to play when new arrivals were sent directly to the gas chambers. They also had to play during the selections when the less healthy and sick were separated from the healthier ones who were still capable to work yet another day.

The trial of the staff who had been captured took place at Crakow in Poland in the Autumn of 1947 and concluded on December 22 of that year. For her share in the selections for the gas chambers and medical experiments and for her torture of countless prisoners, Maria Mandel was condemned to death as a war criminal by the Supreme People's Court in Crakow and executed.

27. PURE EVIL HAS NO GENDER Juana Bormann
Edited on Sun Apr-25-04 08:11 PM by saigon68
Juana Bormann

Juana Bormann was a murderous SS woman, who served in the deathcamp Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen. She was known as The woman with the dogs, who took sadistic pleasure in setting her wolfhounds on prisoners to tear them to pieces.

Juana Bormann joined the SS as a civilian employee on March 1, 1938, because - as she later said during The Belsen Trial - I could earn more money ..

After World War 2 Juana Bormann was found guilty and convicted of war crimes and the execution was set for December 13, 1945. In his book of memoirs, Executioner, the English hangman Albert Pierrepoint described Juana Bormann's last hours. The afternoon before execution each prisoner was weighed so the correct drop could be calculated for them:

"She limped down the corridor looking old and haggard. She was forty-two years old, only a little over five feet high .. she was trembling as she was put on the scale. In German she said: I have my feelings

31. PURE EVIL HAS NO GENDER Herta Bothe
Edited on Sun Apr-25-04 08:12 PM by saigon68
Herta Bothe

The blonde on right w/smirk

In April 1943 the Nazis created Bergen-Belsen in Lower Saxony near the city of Celle as a transit center - Bergen-Belsen was never officially given formal concentration camp status. But the second commandant, SS-Hauptsturmführer Josef Kramer, completed the transformation of Bergen-Belsen into a regular concentration camp.

The notorious Herta Bothe became a camp guard and soon acquired a reputation as a sadist who beat prisoners without mercy. She had a good time shooting at weak female prisoners carrying food containers from the kitchen to the block with her pistol. And she often beat sick girls with a wooden stick

Arrogant and noisy, she storms into the hut accompanied by a soldier and the Jewish camp leader (the "Judenältester"). The "grey mouse" gestures exaggeratedly, provocatively throws her body around sharply and utters theatrical, calculated, horrified cries whenever she sees badly washed dishes or a bed that has not been made carefully enough. She excels in slapping people in the face so as to produce a loud crack, impulsively, quickly and suddenly, without taking her glove off. Without any reason she daily punishes at least seven or eight prisoners in each hut by canceling their bread or meal. Her only aim is to bully, to torment and to humiliate. Her visits serve no other purpose. Diary Notes of Hanna Levy-Hass, September 1944 - April 1945

32. This would be good
Background: Remember the debate tape scandal in 2000? Someone sent Gore's camp Bush's debate training tapes, and Gore turned them over immediately. The tapes were traced back to a woman who worked for someone who worked for Bush. She was videotaped at the PO mailing the tapes, and claimed it was actually a package for her boss, who was mailing pants back to the Gap. Her boss, who works for Rove, supported her story. When the story fell apart, she was convicted, but not the boss who backed her up.

Go back a decade. Rove and the woman's boss are running rival gubernatorial campaigns, and Rove suddenly announces he has found a bug in his office, and blames his opponent. The FBI investigate, and conclude the bug was probably planted by Rove, and they drop the case. Notice two things: One, the bug echoed Watergate from a decade before, and the tapes echoed Reagan's debate notes theft from 1980. Rove likes to historical parallels like that.

Now, when the tapes were turned over by Gore, Bush's camp tried to claim that Gore had done it somehow, anyway, even though he had turned them over immediately. Remember, they were trying to keep Bush off the debate stage with Gore. The press didn't buy it (Some did, not all).

So, at a conference with Hughes, they are asking her about the tapes, and she is doing her usual routine of deflecting answers and trying to blame Gore, and it gets too much for some reporters, who start asking "Did you know about the tapes before they were mailed? Was anyone in Bush's camp behind the mailings, etc?" Hughes is getting flustered, and repeating each time with more assertiveness that they knew nothing about it, and no one was involved.

AND THEN: one reporter asks "Would Bush's staff be willing to take a lie detector test?" Karen Hughes went white as a sheet. Her eyes did that little bit where they focus just a few feet from her face, and she looked like she was about to collapse. I had never seen her lose composure like that. For a few seconds, she looks scared to death. Then, you can see on the tape, her eyes sort of look around, and she remembers she is being taped, and realizes that she's just given it all away, and she snaps back to attention, and says "Yes, yes of course we would."

Someone find that tape of that conference, bring that issue up, and push her for a lie detector test. She was busted. If someone could find a way to revive that issue, it could be amusing.

21. "and they know it" is a private slap at Hughes, I think
Karen Hughes favorite phrase when avoiding a question is "I think the people of (wherever) know that (whatever)." When she was asked about Bush's failed record on education as governor, for instance, her answer would be "I think the people of Texas know that Bush has a great record on education." Fill in your own blanks.

Kerry's spokesperson caught on, and he's spinning it back at her. Kinda cute, in that little inbred spinmeister sort of way.

35. I swear that somewhere I read that she ditched the White House
...In part because her husband Jerry was having trouble finding a job in Washington, DC.

He's a lawyer.

42. Can the Kerry people say the word LIE ???
"...with her misleading attacks on John Kerry's record."

When are the Kerry people going to get some balls and fight back for real? For 8 years, I had to listen to what liars Bill and Hillary Clinton were. The Bush people lied constantly about Gore, and he responded like a confused sissy. How about John Kerry sending his surrogates out to say "the Bush people should start telling the truth - it will be a big improvement." Or "If they'd stop lying long enough to talk about the issues, maybe we would make some progress."

Wsup??

59. Listening to Karen Hughes is like
listening to fingernails grate on a chalkboard. If Blitzer had any interest in fair and balanced journalism, he would have stopped Hughes in the middle of her canned sound bites and challenged her with a few probing questions.

You`ve got to hand it to the Republicans....they certainly stay on message.

Of course when your message has the intellectual depth of a kindergartner detailing the value of cookies, this isn't hard.
