Western Canada views last lunar eclipse for 3 years
Source: CBC

Sky watchers in Western Canada had an opportunity to observe a total lunar eclipse early Saturday morning — for the last time until 2014.

The Earth's shadow covered the moon completely for a little over 50 minutes, starting at 6:05 a.m. PT on Saturday.

According to NASA, the peak of the eclipse, when the moon will appear red or orange, took place at 6:30 a.m. PT. That was roughly 1½ hours before the sun was scheduled to rise and the moon was scheduled to set in Vancouver.

The total eclipse was best viewed from Australia, China, Southeast Asia, Japan, and in Russia east of the Ural Mountains.

1. So did the Western US, which is kind of like Western Canada, except
... we have lots of guns but no decent health care.

2. I saw it! Went outside at around 5:40am (Pacific time) and
and thought, boy, the moon looks weird. I stood there and kept looking and I could see the entire moon, but all but the bottom crescent was in shadow. I didn't know there was an eclipse and when I mentioned it to my brother that "it almost looked like an eclipse" -- he told me it was. I just love stuff like that -- what an amazing little corner of the universe we inhabit.
