(CNN) -- Authorities evacuated neighbors and locked down schools Wednesday after a fire, explosions and a gunshot at a home in Washougal, Washington, officials said.

One neighbor was shot at through the front door of the home after going to the fiery house to see if there was anyone inside who might need help, said East County Fire & Rescue Chief Scott Koehler.

The neighbor was met with a male voice coming from inside the house at the time of the shooting, Koehler said.

Dawn Tarzian, superintendent of Washougal County Schools, said four schools -- two elementary and two high schools -- were put on lockdown as a police precautionary measure.

Update summary from news/internet/twitter

this guy was busted in Idaho 10 years ago for assault, etc. lots of guns and ammo confiscated. member of some white power group too.

wife and sister in law have not been seen for a few days, looks like another crazy :(

house has now burned to the ground, cops saying almost nothing except that there were 'hundreds of rounds fired'. they seem to be fairly sure that he is dead in there somewhere, but they can't look until it cools down. they do consider it a crime scene.

EDIT: link to pics videos of fire, local reporting round up (so far)
