Heavy police presence as Occupiers march

Hundreds of Occupy Sydney protesters have taken to the streets under the watchful eyes of a heavy police presence.

People from all walks of life converged on Town Hall at midday today bearing banners with slogans like "You can't eat money" and "Stop police brutality".

The Occupy Sydney activists, who are part of a worldwide protest against corporate greed, have vowed to re-occupy Martin Place indefinitely, despite police assurances they will be removed at 4.30pm today.

Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) Sydney branch secretary Paul McAleer told the crowd they were part of "the most inspirational movement of working people in the history of humanity".
