Wall St JournalA federal judge on Monday stopped H&R Block Inc. from acquiring low-cost rival TaxAct, handing the Justice Department a win in an antitrust case as it prepares for a similar trial to block AT&T Inc. from acquiring T-Mobile USA.
The ruling is a significant victory for the Justice Department, which filed an antitrust lawsuit in May to prevent the merger. The case marked the first time a Justice Department merger challenge had gone to trial since 2004.
