A Massive Union Just Voted To Side With The Wall Street Protesters
Source: Business Insider

Linette Lopez | Sep. 29, 2011, 10:30 AM

According to Daily Kos, The New York Transit Workers Union (TWU) voted to support the Wall Street Protestors at their meeting last night.

A member of TWU Local 100 told a reporter that they would join the protest Friday at 4PM.

The TWU has four main divisions: Railroad; Gaming; Airline; Transit; and Utility, University and Service. The Union has 114 autonomous locals representing over 200,000 members and retirees in 22 states around the country.

Occupy Wall Street has been picking up some decent support from unions in the past few days. Yesterday we reported that the Teamsters Union declared their support for protestors, and we also found out that the United Pilots Union had members at the protest demonstrating in uniform.

72. Exactly, Rogue! THIS SHOULD END CAPITALISM ONCE AND FOR ALL!
We need to DESTROY the policy known as capitalism at its source: Wall Street, and reclaim the monies to distribute in progressively socially accepted ventures whose board members are REAL people, not cutthroat ingrates only wanting money money money.

Regulate, then destroy, capitalism, until we make this world free.

Imo, capitalism is dead among ordinary citizens --

but we have to find ways to starve the corporations -- especially the banks --

credit cards, etal --

125. PRODUCTIVE CAPITALISM is one thing. FINANCIAL CAPITALISM is now white-collar racketeering.
There's a big difference.

Take a look at the conversion from paying dividends to doing "retained earnings" which then get grabbed with takeover M&A actions. Low interest money to financial institutions from The Fed invariably rolls into these M&A actions -- by the billions of dollars a year, by the twenty trillion since 1960.

This works like the oil industry of 1890-1930.

The great Trusts of the 19th Century approached what these guys are doing.

But otherwise there has never been anything running around that could steal money by the trillions of dollars.

147. Capitalism has ALWAYS been about moving the wealth and natural resources of nations from many to few
Nothing new about that -- how much is a nation worth -- ?

Criminals are inventive -- as long as they are being aided and abetted by

our elected officials they more they can steal!

Capitalism is an evil -- and you can't regulate an evil -- move on!

145. Unregulated capitalism is merely organized crime --
People make an economy -- we don't need Wall St or corporations ---

In fact, had we never gotten involved in "bus-i-ness" we'd still have the planet -- !!!

The "financial economy," itself, is simply an effort to create a profit for the few --

Capitalism is an evil -- and you can't regulate an evil --

If we truly want democracy then we need economic democracy -- and that sure ain't capitalism!!

And how much better off we'd have been had Rockefeller never brought in that first oil well

in the late 1800's -- !!!

Again -- we'd still have the planet!!

Those days are long gone.

I was surprised to see a 15-second snippet about the protest... which showed the ground littered with protest signs and one or two people sitting on the curb. That was the NBC nightly news; not a peep out of the locals. That's Texas for ya.

That's how it used to be, once upon a time.

That's how it should be again.

So many first responders died on 911 because, like a typical Republican, Guiliani would not spend money on a communication system (also because he had put the Emergency Response Center in the WTC, against advice and common sense).

Why any First Responder still votes Republican is beyond me.

For that matter, why any worked, union member or not, public or private, continues to vote for the "right to work for the lowest wages" Party is beyond me.

Just speaking as a postal worker, it was in NYC in 1970 when the letter carriers went on strike and shut down mail service in NYC that helped create the middle class jobs that are now under attack...

NYC is Gettysburg.

That is exactly what the TWU website says--it needs copy editing, but I believe what it may mean to say is: Four main divisions: Railroad; Gaming; Airline; and Transit; and three minor divisions: Utility; University; and Service. If you look at the photo on the TWO website, it helps a little (although it adds Municipal and Schools instead of Gaming and Service, so I could be totally off base!):

Today we learned the Industrial Workers of the World put a message of support on their website as well.

137. Yep that was going to be my question also
Does it mean showing up at the demonstration? Does it mean rotating in membership, so that they always have a presence? Or does it just mean a "solidarity fist" bump and that's it?

More importantly, does it mean job site action or actions?

And if you're really going to "occupy Wall Street" when do you actually get on TO Wall Street to really make some noise?

119. Time for Obama's DoJ to investigate police brutality by NYPD towards
non-violent protesters exercising their first amendment rights. (Bologna, et. al.)

But, hey, Obama's DoJ couldn't be bothered to investigate the Bush Junta, so why would they care about the rights of a few non-violent demonstrators being blatantly violated?

65. the Wall Street Protesters MUST start to put forward a cogent political agenda with real leaders of
their own choosing, or they will be co-opted and subsumed into the false left-right paradigm in the same way that the original Tea Partiers of 2006 to 2008 were. They CANNOT let the media choose their leaders (and they do need leaders and spokespeople, otherwise the message will get blurred into a grey blob of mish-mashed slogans).

The systemic controllers are absolutely brutal at hi-jacking any true movement that threatens them. All one needs to do to see this is the Obama regimes tepid and flaccid response to the Wisconsin protests.

129. Just like what the ARAB SPRING folks did it ???
Obviously not.

Embarrassing the RICO-eligible criminals on Wall Street is enough for now.

They stole $25-billion in the first Dot.com scam cycle early-mid-1990s, what you read about in "Burn Rate" from Michael Wolfe. Nobody prosecuted. That accelerated to $500-billion or more in the second Dot.com cycle late 1990s. Roughly six people prosecuted.

Those models turned to the grand mortgage scammery and mortgage-based bond scams in 2003-2008. Easily $10-trillion. Prosecutions ??? No-no-no. And loaning out money to drive profits in the Productive Capitalism sectors... not important.

Common Law Fraud -- no longer exists. Not for FINANCIAL CAPITALISM.

That is what these protests are all about. That's the core of it. Simple crime.

89. Union Members, Wall Street Protesters to Converge at Police Plaza
http://www.wnyc.org/blogs/wnyc-news-blog/2011/sep/29/union-members-wall-street-protesters-converge-police-plaza/

Labor activists and members of the Occupy Wall Street protests will converge at One Police Plaza Friday evening to protest police tactics, namely the use of pepper-spray against some of the protesters during a march last weekend.

The development comes as a number of large unions are signing on to the protests, now on their 13th day.

Yesterday, members of Transit Workers Union's Local 100, which represents 38,000 MTA workers, agreed to back the protesters with financial support and manpower.

Local 100 President John Samuelsen argues that higher taxes on the wealthiest New Yorkers would help offset the job losses of workers in recent years.
snip

I wonder how many of the 38,000 will be there?? Should make for an interesting evening!!
