Ohio tea party activist to challenge Speaker John Boehner in 2012 GOP primary
Source: WaPo

CINCINNATI — A tea party activist is challenging U.S. House Speaker John Boehner (BAY’-nur) in the 2012 Republican primary.

The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://bit.ly/o5hTXQ) reports that David Lewis announced his candidacy on Friday.

Lewis, the father of a 2-year-old girl, says he plans on running on a single issue — Boehner’s support of a federal budget that provides funding to Planned Parenthood, which he calls “the largest killer of unborn babies in America.”

Lewis tells the newspaper that he plans on running graphic anti-abortion ads against Boehner. He says that people will not reject abortion until they see abortion.

2. Good, the Tea Party will take the GOP down with their constant
overreach.

Riding the Abortion Issue will turn Independents completely
off and make them run from the GOP.

Great the More Radical the Religious Right and, that is
who the Tea Party really is, the better the chances for Democrats.

3. So does this allow Boehner
an opening to actually do something that will do the country some good, instead of kowtowing to the teahadists?

4. Thanks for the pronunciation key
John Boehner (BAY’-nur)

Is that standard journalistic practice or is he a special case?

11. So it should be pronounced just what he is: Boh ner or Bo-ner.
I hope that Teabagger looses. I'd much rather have Boener...no matter how you/he pronounces his name. I think he'd be open to compromise once in awhile and the Bagger never will. Boener is the best of two EVILS.

16. Absolutely; Boner has tried to accomplish somethings btwn baggers+WH.
Its CANTOR we should try to get rid of. If Boner goes, Cantor will (likely) get Boner's position, and, believe it or not, it can be worse than it has been.

31. What is wrong with trying to replace BOTH of them with Democrats?
It's not as though letting Boehner run unopposed by a Democratic automatically means we'll succeed in challenging Cantor.

We should be recruiting Democrats in every district.

34. Nothing wrong with it at all,
and Dems certainly should recruit in every district. Unfortunately doing so takes lots of resources.

His name makes no sense. Much like everything else about him.

17. He's of German descent, so it probably had an umlaut in the old country
My great-grandmother's family name was the same. There was a family event about five years ago and they brought over a relative from the branch that stayed there. His last name is spelled the same, only with an umlaut. Probably umlauts usually got the boot as soon as most German families settled in to life in the US (and certainly by the next generation of Anglophone children).

27. When it's a commonly mispronounced name, it is
I think they still do it with Mike Crapo's (cray-poe's) name. Come on, you know people all across America still pronounce the Speaker's name "boner."

Being the RW rag that it is, WAPO would be horrified if the Rethug Speaker of House got called "Boner."

36. Reminds me that my father used to have a customer named Backhouse. I laughed
out loud when I saw it. He said it was pronounced Bah-hoose. I don't know if that's worse than Boehner or Weiner. If I had one of those names...I change it for the sake of my children if for nothing else.

will run as an independent, ala Lieberman.

33. I do know that its...
... a PRIMARY. The post says it. What happens after that IS speculation, but don't get your hopes up. It isn't likely this guy is going to run as an independent, or do any damage even if he does.

13. Careful, buddy: if it's solely about images....
people will reject birth if they SEE birth!

While the issue is really about a woman's right to privacy, this guy wants to make it about imagery. Fine. But fair's fair. Let's see some photos of women who died in back alley abortions or self-induced ones. Let's see some photos of the families they left behind. Let's see some photos of children who've been abused or killed by women who did not want to have them. Yeah, sure, let's make it alllllll about imagery. Careful what you ask for, Mr. Lewis.
:grr:

22. Actually, the correct way to pronounce Boehner is to simply say (Boner)
Fortunately in our English language, individuals are not permitted to invent phonetic pronunciations for their favorite words, just because they fancy the image of themselves that it creates. There are phonetic guides at the beginning of every dictionary that have already determined the way that we use our alphabet and our language. Now, if he just wants to change his name, then that will be his prerogative. But I would think in that case he would prefer to just go with something a little more honest, like say.........Monster.

BTW: I noticed that the asshat from the AP who added the phonetic fantasy to the first line of the story didn't even have the courage to attribute his own name to the piece.

Doesn't even live in the district.

If he had had actual principles, he would have moved first.
